⚖️ This week’s NPI Wellington First meeting was led by Eric H. Light, Esq. of Eric H. Light, P.A.- Florida Estate Planning & Probate Law Firm! Eric is an experienced estate planning and probate attorney who helps individuals and families protect their assets, plan for the future, and avoid unnecessary stress and conflict for their loved ones.

Eric walked us through key points about trusts, wills, and estate planning in Florida. He explained that while many trusts are written as irrevocable, Florida law does allow certain revisions if all beneficiaries agree and the trust includes the right language. He also emphasized the importance of regularly reviewing estate plans after major life changes such as marriage, divorce, the birth of children, deaths in the family, or changes in the law.

A major theme of Eric’s presentation was: do not wait. Too many people put off planning until it is too late, and that can lead to unintended consequences, family disputes, or assets passing in ways they never intended. Eric noted that even well-intentioned plans can fail if a trust is never properly funded or if documents are not updated to reflect current circumstances. His practice focuses on creating clear, customized estate plans that stand up to real-life challenges and protect what matters most to each client.

Eric also touched on the dangers of elder abuse and undue influence, sharing how important it is to have planning done while someone still has full capacity. When planning is delayed or done improperly, families may end up in guardianship proceedings or costly litigation—situations Eric works hard to help his clients avoid.

Our theme this week was to incorporate Dolly Parton or Chuck Norris into your infomercial. Congratulations to this week’s best infomercial winner (and best dressed), Kristina (Nina) Gerardi of McGovern Gerardi Law, P.A.! 🏆

⚡ Last week’s NPI Wellington First meeting was “Electric! (Boogie, Woogie, Woogie)” thanks to Patrick Gannon of Gannon Electric! Patrick brought the energy while sharing easy-to-understand tips that can help homeowners keep their electrical systems safer. 🎶

One of Patrick’s biggest takeaways was that a circuit breaker is not just there to protect appliances—it is there to protect the wiring inside your walls. When too much electricity runs through a wire, the breaker should trip and turn the power off before the wire gets dangerously hot. If a breaker does not trip when it should, overheated wiring can become a fire risk.

Patrick also explained that proper grounding and bonding are important parts of a safe electrical system. In simple terms, they help direct excess electricity safely away from the home and help reduce the risk of electrical shock or damage during a fault.

He also reminded us to check our smoke alarms. Every bedroom should have a smoke alarm, with additional alarms outside sleeping areas and on every level of the home. When smoke alarms are interconnected, one alarm going off triggers all of them—giving everyone in the home a better chance to hear the warning quickly. Patrick also recommended having a smoke/carbon-monoxide alarm near the door leading from an attached garage into the home.

Great presentation Patrick!

This week’s meeting was led by our President, Collin Lynch of Upward Wealth Group, who shared valuable insight on retirement planning and how the right IRA strategy can help reduce taxable income while building long-term wealth.

Collin walked us through the differences between Traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs, and SEP IRAs, along with the importance of considering time horizon, risk tolerance, tax bracket, liquidity needs, cash flow, inflation, investment knowledge, and personal comfort when choosing the best fit.

Key takeaways from Collin’s presentation included:
- Traditional IRA contributions can help reduce taxable income.
- 401(k), 403(b), and 457 plans have a max contribution of $24,500.
- Roth IRA contributions are limited by income and come with the benefit of tax-free growth, with a 5-year rule to keep in mind.
- SEP IRAs allow for much higher contribution limits, and can be a powerful option for self-employed professionals or business owners.

This week’s meeting was led by Christie Hudson - Cruise Planners, who brought the fun with an interactive game of “Ship or Bull Ship” while educating us on the ins and outs of travel planning.

Christie busted some common travel myths and shared valuable insights:

🛳️ “I can find better deals myself online.” Bull Ship — Christie can often scope out deals that are even better than what you’ll find on cruise websites.
🛳️ “Once I make my deposit, the price is locked in.” Bull Ship — pricing can change, and a travel professional can help monitor and adjust.
🛳️ “I only sell cruises.” Bull Ship — Christie plans everything from all-inclusive resorts to European adventures and fully customized dream trips.

💰She also reminded us that working with a local travel professional like Christie doesn’t cost you anything extra, while giving you expert guidance and personalized support every step of the way.

🏡 This week’s meeting was led by Kaylyn Beasley of Great Florida Insurance / Silvester Insurance Advisors, who delivered an eye-opening presentation on understanding your insurance coverage—and how to better protect yourself.

Kaylyn encouraged everyone to be proactive with their policies:
- Read your policy endorsements and ask for regular reviews
- Research your carrier’s financial strength (Demotech, KBRA, AM Best)
- Cheaper is not always better—make sure you’re confident in your coverage
- Ask trusted professionals who pays claims and who denies them

She also highlighted common coverage gaps that many homeowners overlook:
- Outdated policies with replacement costs that haven’t kept up (up over 111%)
- Limited water coverage and restrictive endorsements
- Roof surfacing payment schedules and missing ordinance or law coverage
- Replacement cost vs ACV differences
- Policy types like HO3 vs HO8 and DP3 vs DP1 (especially for landlords)
- Lack of umbrella policies for added liability and UM protection
- Flood insurance being separate from homeowners
- Mold coverage limits (10/10 vs 25/50)
- Missing coverage for high-value items like jewelry, fine art, and collectibles
- Business vs personal auto policy confusion
- Limited liability and no UM coverage on auto policies

Looking to lower your homeowners insurance premium? Kaylyn shared these helpful tips:
- Upgrade your roof-to-wall connection (toe nails, clips, single wraps, double wraps)
- Add hurricane protection—impact windows or shutters both count the same on wind mitigation reports
- When replacing your roof, consider adding a secondary water resistance (SWR), especially for tile roofs
- Install an automatic water shut-off system
- Use water monitoring devices to qualify for additional discounts

Her key message: know what you’re paying for so you’re fully protected when a loss happens.
