During monsoon season, roads in Ruidosoโ€”especially near arroyos, low-water crossings, and burn scar zonesโ€”can flood within minutes. Water may be deeper and move faster than it appears.

Remember:
โ€ข Never drive through flooded roads, just 6 inches of water can stall a car, and 12 inches can carry most vehicles away.
โ€ข Be aware of the flood-prone crossings. Visit https://www.ruidosoready.com to view a map of low-water crossings and flood-prone areas throughout Ruidoso. Identifying these locations in advance can help you avoid danger when storms roll in.
โ€ข Obey road barricades and signage; theyโ€™re there for your safety, not as suggestions.

If you're uncertain, turn around; don't drown. This small decision can have a big impact.

Donโ€™t wait for a weather event or an emergency, make preparedness part of your routine. Review, restock, and remain aware for every season and every situation.
