Rupert VT Volunteer Fire Department

Rupert VT Volunteer Fire Department The department was organized in the summer of 1950 after the landmark Guild House burned. Old Home Day is held the 2nd Saturday in August.

We are a volunteer fire department, organized in 1950, in the Northwest corner of Bennington County, VT, bordered by Washington County, NY to the West and Rutland County, VT to the North. In the October that year, the department purchased their first truck, a 1927 American LaFrance. An old School House that was located at the end of Lewis Road off Route 153, was moved to the location it sits now t

o be the first Fire House. Talks began in 1974 for a new building and the following year, it was voted on to build a new Fire House. Construction was complete in 1976 and in 2001 an addition was added to enlarge the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as giving us a larger storage area in the basement and a new storage area for tables, chairs and firefighting equipment. Rupert Old Home Days started in 1968 and was held in West Rupert, at what is now called the Old Ballfield, and the chicken bar-b-que was held across the street in the school yard, now the Town Office. The 3-day event beginning on Thursday night, draws a crowd, especially for the sunset parade on Saturday. Members train every Tuesday night, except on the 1st Tuesday when we have our monthly meeting. Driver training, pump training, hose advancement, search & rescue, is just some of the training we do. Members also, when available, attend schools to further their training and knowledge. Anyone interested in the fire service can stop by any Tuesday night.
