Anthem Broadband

Anthem Broadband Fast, reliable internet for rural Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming, Montana & Nevada. Residential & commercial plans available. Call us today!

Anthem Broadband delivers unlimited high-speed fiber internet to homes and businesses where other providers won't go. Anthem Broadband makes internet easy in Idaho, Eastern Oregon, Northern Nevada, and Montana, Serving over 19-thousand customers, Anthem Broadband is the largest, locally owned and operated internet provider in Idaho, with over 200 towers and five business locations to better serve

our communities. We build fiber internet infrastructure differently. Instead of using a GPON, light splitting method, we use Active Ethernet. With Active Ethernet, every subscriber gets their own strand of fiber for a direct, point-to-point connection! It is a more costly infrastructure, but we believe in building for the future. Having your own strand of fiber allows us to quickly and easily upgrade services as new technology arises without needing to tear up existing lines or damaging private property. In addition, Anthem Broadband connects all its fiber networks to a completely redundant ring, with access points in both Salt Lake and Seattle, making it one of the most robust and redundant systems available, ensuring the most uptime and reliable speeds. Anthem Broadband is also extremely skilled in the fixed wireless industry! We have over 23 years of experience and provide the greatest service and reliability by connecting all our wireless towers to the same, redundant fiber backbone. The Anthem Broadband network is also managed very closely to certify that no access point reaches more than 80 percent utilization, which means you do not slow down just because a neighbor got online. Anthem Broadband has been serving local communities since the turn of the century and we plan on being around for years to come, because taking care of our friends and neighbors is what drives us to keep growing, keep innovating, and ensuring our area receives the connectivity it needs to compete in today’s society.

Why is my internet slow in August? It's one of the most common questions we hear this time of year β€” and the answer is almost never your internet provider. πŸ‘€πŸ’™

August is the peak demand month for home internet. Kids are home from school, every device in the house is online at once, and routers are working harder than ever in the summer heat. Before you pick up the phone and call us β€” run through these 7 things first. There's a good chance you can fix it yourself in minutes!

1. Too many devices connected at once
Every device on your network draws bandwidth β€” even when you're not actively using it. Phones, tablets, smart TVs, gaming consoles, smart home devices, and laptops all compete for the same connection. The more devices you have the slower things get for everyone.
Fix: Log into your router settings and disconnect anything you're not actively using.

2. Your router is overheating
August heat is no joke β€” and your router feels it. Routers placed in direct sunlight, in enclosed cabinets, or near other heat-generating electronics can overheat and throttle themselves automatically to cool down. This is one of the most overlooked causes of slow summer internet.
Fix: Move your router somewhere cool with good airflow and away from direct sunlight.

3. Your router needs a restart
Your router is a small computer β€” and like any computer it slows down over time without a regular reboot. If you can't remember the last time you restarted yours that's your problem right there.
Fix: Unplug from the wall, wait a full 60 seconds, plug back in. Allow 2–3 minutes to fully reconnect before testing your speeds.

4. You're on the wrong WiFi band
Most modern routers broadcast two frequencies β€” 2.4 GHz (longer range, slower speeds) and 5 GHz (faster speeds, shorter range). Being on the wrong band for your device's location can drag your speeds down significantly.
Fix: Connect devices that are close to your router to the 5 GHz band. Use 2.4 GHz for devices that are farther away or for smart home devices.

5. Background apps are eating your bandwidth
Cloud backups, automatic app updates, streaming services running in the background, and game downloads quietly consume bandwidth around the clock β€” especially on gaming consoles and smart TVs that run updates overnight.
Fix: Check which apps are running in the background on your devices and close anything you're not actively using. Disable automatic downloads where possible.

6. Your router is outdated
A router older than 3–5 years may simply not be capable of handling the demands of a modern connected household. Old hardware is one of the most common causes of slow internet that has nothing to do with your internet plan or provider.
Fix: Give us a call at 208-677-8000 β€” we can review your equipment and recommend an upgrade if needed.

7. Your plan has outgrown your household
If your household has grown over the past year β€” more devices, more streaming, more people working or learning from home β€” your current internet plan may have simply outgrown itself. What was enough speed two years ago may not be enough today.
Fix: Call our local team and we'll help you find the right plan for your household's current needs.

Still not fixed after checking all 7? That's what we're here for. Our local Idaho team picks up the phone and actually helps β€” no robots, no runaround. πŸ’™

What is the difference between fiber and fixed wireless internet? Great question β€” and it's one we get asked all the time! Here's the simple breakdown. πŸ‘‡

Fiber internet uses fiber-optic cables to deliver data using light signals β€” directly to your home or business. It's one of the fastest and most reliable broadband technologies available today and is ideal for communities where fiber infrastructure has been built.

Fixed wireless internet uses that same fiber infrastructure as its backbone β€” but instead of running a cable all the way to your front door, the signal is beamed wirelessly from a nearby tower directly to your home. It's a fantastic option for rural communities where full fiber deployment is still expanding and delivers high speeds, low latency, and rock-solid reliability.

At Anthem Broadband we offer both β€” and regardless of which technology serves your address, you'll never deal with data caps or throttling. Ever. πŸ’™

Check out the graphic for a full side by side comparison β€” and if you're not sure which option is available at your address give us a call! We're always happy to help.
