We are so proud to recognize Jessica Sharkey as our August Caregiver of the Month!

When we first met Jessica, we decided to take a chance on her — and we are so thankful we did. Since joining our team, Jessica has shown us time and time again what it truly means to have a caregiver’s heart. She is a go-getter, a fierce advocate for her clients, and someone who never hesitates to go above and beyond when a person needs her.

Recently, one of Jessica’s clients was struggling with some very difficult personal-care needs. Jessica didn’t simply look at the clock or wait until her next scheduled shift. She made special trips to ensure he was clean, comfortable, cared for, and most importantly, treated with dignity.

But Jessica’s care goes far beyond meeting physical needs.

When that same client lost one of his only close friends, Jessica recognized that what he needed most was companionship. She took him to the lake, bought him lunch, and simply sat with him while he shared memories of his friend and worked through his grief. That is caregiving. It’s seeing the person, not just the task.

Jessica is also one of the first to step up when extra shifts need to be covered, and we regularly receive phone calls from clients who want us to know just how wonderful she is and how much they appreciate the care she provides.

One of the things we admire most about Jessica is her determination. She has been open with us about challenges in her past, but she refuses to allow her past to define her future. Instead, she shows up every day determined to build something better — not only for herself, but for the people around her.

Jessica, we took a chance on you, but somewhere along the way, you took a chance on us too. And we couldn’t be more grateful.

Thank you for showing us what compassion, determination, advocacy, and genuine caregiving look like. Your clients are better because you are in their lives, and our team is better because you are part of it.

Today, we pause to remember the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed by that day.

We remember those who lost their lives, the families who lost loved ones, and the brave first responders who answered the call to serve.
