Post It Note Process Mapping. We had an issue brought up during our Daily GEMBA Walk at an assembly work cell, where we were able to work as a team to create a process map to solve the problem.

During your Daily GEMBA Walks, it is important to show your team on the spot problem solving with real solution with real results. This ensures your entire team sees the power and importance of the Lean Dream!

Lean manufacturing is a production methodology that focuses on reducing waste and maximizing efficiency in manufacturing processes. It was first developed by Toyota in the 1940s and has since been adopted by many other companies around the world.

The goal of lean manufacturing is to create value for the customer while minimizing waste in all aspects of production, including time, resources, and materials. This is achieved through the elimination of non-value-added activities, such as overproduction, waiting, unnecessary transportation, overprocessing, excess inventory, defects, and unused talent.

To implement lean manufacturing, companies use various tools and techniques, such as value stream mapping, 5S, Kanban, Just-in-Time (JIT), and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). These tools help identify and eliminate waste, streamline processes, reduce lead times, and improve quality.

The benefits of lean manufacturing include improved productivity, reduced costs, increased flexibility, better quality, and higher customer satisfaction. It also promotes a culture of continuous improvement, where employees are encouraged to identify problems and suggest solutions to improve processes.

However, implementing lean manufacturing can be challenging, as it requires a significant shift in mindset and culture. It also requires a commitment to ongoing training and development, as well as a willingness to experiment and make changes based on feedback.

Overall, lean manufacturing is a powerful methodology that can help companies improve their production processes and create more value for their customers. By focusing on waste reduction and continuous improvement, companies can become more efficient, competitive, and sustainable in the long run.

Build Poke Yoke into a process to avoid long expensive quality or design reviews in the end.

Building quality into a process step allows leaders to setup support points for our teams at different hand offs points in a process, which gives leaders the ability to measure success at each point in the process. These measurements should become part of a GEMBA Walk as it allows the Lean Leaders an opportunity to support teams in the GEMBA who identify a problem or solution stopping a process from reaching it's success as designed.

This is a key point in being able to build and sustain a Lean Dream!

Engaging team members daily in the GEMBA has proven to be an important element in growing teams to be able to identify, translate, and solve problems surrounding the processes they work within daily.

It is important to provide support for team members working and reporting out in the GEMBA to keep them engaged in improving daily. Keep the daily discipline of attending, listening, challenging, and supporting team members in the GEMBA to maximize results of your Lean Journey.

One important factor is to ensure team members are not just reporting the news each day in the GEMBA by only talking about meeting their goal or missing their goal, rather have them making news daily by supporting them in taking steps forward with actual actions towards improving their metrics, where teams can now report out their last actions taken the prior day, the prior day's actions successes and failures, and what action they are planning to take today with the expected results.

As a Lean Leader or Champion, it is important to ask Why? This type of daily GEMBA interaction changes the game for an organization's Lean Journey.

We will never hit perfection in our journey. Perfection is a good target to strive for while in pursuit of the Lean as it keeps us focused on the bulls eye for that Lean Dream.

Lean Dreamers just conducted a successful 2-Day Kaizen Event with a local manufacturer, who was looking to improve their order entry process surrounding their Engineering Team's interaction with the process.

This was the team's first Kaizen Event as an organization, so Introduced them to The Who Moved My Cheese Experience to get them onboard with the possibility of change coming to their organization as they embark on their Lean Journey. I could see the self reflection and light bulbs clicking as we endured the experience together. Overall it was a success.

We established their current state, trained on the 8-Waste, and we created a future SIPOC Matrix outlining their new process.

More to come!
