Today, we celebrate Juneteenth and the enduring pursuit of freedom, opportunity, and progress.
The Juneteenth flag is rich with symbolism. Its red, white, and blue colors affirm that Black Americans are an inseparable part of the American story. The star at its center represents freedom for formerly enslaved people and honors Texas, where the news of emancipation finally arrived on June 19, 1865. The bursting star surrounding it symbolizes a new beginning and the promise of a brighter future.
We believe education helps illuminate our shared history and empowers future generations to build stronger communities. As we recognize Juneteenth, we reflect on the progress made, the lessons of the past, and the opportunities we create when everyone has the chance to learn, grow, and thrive
