Today's featured team member is a rockstar trainer and reassuring voice on the HR support line, helping to guide you through questions on everything from leaves of absence to I-9 forms to employee handbooks. Mari Bradford, our Senior HR Director, was hired 21 years ago to help manage our very first HR hotline (shout out to Mountain Mike's Pizza!) and throughout the years, has been instrumental in growing all the ways we are able to serve our members.

It may be tempting to classify an employee as exempt to sidestep overtime and other wage-and-hour headaches—but in California, every employee is presumed non-exempt (hourly) by default. An employee can only be classified as exempt/salaried once they satisfy both the salary test and one of the recognized duties-based exemptions.
