I DIDN'T START AT SIX FIGURES. I STARTED WITH BASIC INTERPRETING APPOINTMENTS. 🎀

My interpreting business journey didn't start with big contracts, conferences or high-paying clients.

I started where I was, gained experience and then realized there was a whole interpreting industry I knew NOTHING about.

So I researched. I learned. I trained. And I found the sectors that made sense for ME.

Here are 3 things I learned along the way:

1️⃣ Start somewhere. Your first assignments may be basic appointmentsβ€”and that's OK. Use them to develop your skills, professionalism and confidence.

2️⃣ Learn the different interpreting sectors. Healthcare, legal, education, government, conferences, community and business interpreting can require completely different skills, terminology and training.

3️⃣ Find YOUR lane and get damn good at it. I researched the opportunities, chose the sectors I wanted my business to pursue, trained and continued building my experience.

Eventually, those basic appointments turned into clients, contracts, larger assignments and a six-figure business doing something I genuinely love.

πŸ”₯ CEO TIP: Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else's Chapter 20.

You don't have to know everything before you start.

Start β†’ Learn β†’ Train β†’ Specialize β†’ Build β†’ GROW.

Your bilingual skills could become more than a job.

They could become a career, freelance service or BUSINESS.

And yesβ€”you can build your own version of success too. Results will depend on your skills, market, experience and the work you put into building it.

How my coffee run ended in court πŸ˜πŸ€”

A little throwback to 2016… sitting on my couch, ending my day with a quick interpreter yap. πŸ˜‚

Let’s talk LAST-MINUTE interpreting requests. Should you take them? Are they worth it? And what are the pros and cons when a client or agency calls needing an interpreter ASAP?

After years in the interpreting and translation industry, one thing hasn’t changed: last-minute requests are part of this business. The key is knowing when they make sense for YOU and when to say no.

πŸ‘‹ Quick hello, quick tip, and good night from me.

Have a question about interpreting, translation, freelancing or building your language-service business? Drop it in the comments β€” your question might become my next video.

Six figures is great. FREEDOM is better.

I built my business so I could work from home, be present for my family and still make money doing what I love.

Because what's the point of building a successful business if you never get to enjoy your LIFE?

Becoming a court-certified interpreter is HARDβ€”but it's not impossible. πŸ‘

But here's what I DON'T want you to do:

Spend years waiting for a certification before starting your interpreting career or building your business.

There are MANY opportunities in the language industry that don't require you to be a court-certified interpreter.

Here are 3 things I'd do first:

1️⃣ Learn the industry. Medical, legal, education, government, conferences, community interpreting and other sectors have different requirements. Figure out where your skills fit BEFORE spending thousands on training and certifications.

2️⃣ Get experience while you grow. Start pursuing opportunities you're actually qualified for. Build your terminology, interpreting skills, professionalism, confidence and client experience.

3️⃣ Treat your skill like a BUSINESS. Learn how to market yourself, set your rates, find clients, create professional systems and stop thinking an agency is the only way to get work.

Certification can absolutely open certain doorsβ€”especially if your goal is to work directly in the courts.

But certification isn't the only door. πŸ˜‰

Learn the industry. Build your skills. Build your business. Then decide which certifications actually support YOUR goals.

Word-of-mouth marketing is STILL one of my biggest client-getting strategies. πŸ‘

I don't pay thousands for ads or depend on some fancy marketing agency to bring me clients. After 25+ years in business, a huge part of my growth has come from relationships, referrals, reputation and delivering damn good service.

Want more word-of-mouth referrals? Follow Faviola Valencia, the CEO HUSTLER your Genx, bilingual WFH Chingona Latina entrepreneur CEO strategist πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

Here's some quick business tips for you because sharing is caring πŸ™Œ

1️⃣ Be worth referring. Do great work, communicate professionally, show up and make your client's life easier.

2️⃣ Stay visible. Follow up with past clients, nurture your relationships and remind people what you do. Don't disappear after you get paid.

3️⃣ Make it easy to refer you. Be VERY clear about who you help, what you offer and the problems you solve. If people can't explain what you do, they can't confidently recommend you.

You don't always need MORE followers.

Sometimes you need to become the person your clients say:

β€œI know exactly who you need to call.”

That's how I've built a business that continues generating clients, referrals and contracts without relying on paid marketing.

"Don't delete your contacts!" πŸ‘€
That's what online business coaches, entrepreneurs say... but here's the truth:

If your email list, chatbot, or CRM is full of people who never open your emails, never click, never reply, and never buy, you're paying to store dead weight.

I recently cleaned out inactive contacts from my accounts, and it was one of the smartest business decisions I made. I do this on a quarterly and yearly basis right before my renewals. (I DON'T LIKE TO WASTE MONEY πŸ’°).

A smaller, engaged audience beats a massive inactive list every time. Better deliverability. Better analytics. Lower monthly costs. Higher engagement.

Stop chasing vanity metrics and start building a list of people who actually want to hear from you.

What's your strategy? Are you holding onto inactive contacts... or growing a healthy business?

This little strategy saves me πŸ’° money every year and it's part of my Hustler Business Plan, get yours now and see πŸ‘€ what other strategies I can help you with!

πŸ‘‡ Tell me in the comments.
