A Note of Thanks to Dr. Joaquin Arambula

As Dr. Joaquin Arambula completes his final term representing the 31st Assembly District, CAADS wants to recognize the impact he has had on our community.

As an emergency room physician from the Central Valley, Dr. Arambula brought a caregiver's perspective to Sacramento that few legislators can match. His service on the Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care kept the needs of adult day services centers and the families who rely on them squarely in view, at a time when our sector needed champions who understood both the clinical and human stakes of long-term care. His work on the Assembly Health Committee, and his years chairing the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, helped protect the safety-net programs that so many of our members' participants depend on every day.

CAADS is especially grateful for his sustained push to expand access to care for California's most vulnerable residents, work that reflected the same mission that drives adult day services: keeping people connected to their communities, supported with dignity, and out of institutional settings whenever possible.

On behalf of our member centers, the families they serve, and the caregivers who hold it all together, thank you, Dr. Arambula, for your years of service and for never losing sight of the patients behind the policy.

The Justice in Aging resources on the Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP) and Community-Based Adult Services (CBAS) provide a clear and informative overview of how these vital Medi-Cal benefits help older adults and people with disabilities remain safely living in their homes and communities. They highlight MSSP and CBAS as key components of California’s Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) system, offering coordinated health, therapeutic, and social services that help prevent or delay unnecessary institutionalization.

We are grateful to Justice in Aging for producing these resources and helping to elevate awareness of CBAS. Their work plays an important role in ensuring policymakers, stakeholders, and communities better understand the value of adult day services and the critical role they play in supporting independence, dignity, and quality of life.
