✨ BE.BOLD. ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT 🔥💫

We are thrilled to feature Andru Defeye, the Sacramento Poet Laureate Emeritus (2020–2024) at Be.Bold. 2025 this Thursday!

Among Andru’s many contributions as an artist, in 2024, he launched the city’s first Sacramento Poetry Week. He is the founder of Zero Forbidden Goals (ZFG), a creative collective responsible for cultural activations like National Guerrilla Poetry Month, Chainlink Poetry, and The Intersection. In 2025, he released UNLOCKED: The Laureate Years, a poetry collection chronicling five years of protest, pandemic, service, and personal transformation.

Defeye has been named one of Sacramento Magazine’s Top 100 business leaders and nominated for an honorary doctorate from CSUS. He continues to work at the intersection of art, education, and systems change—building movements rooted in joy, language, and cultural strategy.

We are excited to open our 2025 Be. Bold. Conference with special guest and friend, Basim Elkarra. Basim is a Sacramento-based civil rights leader currently serving as the Executive Director of — a Nationwide 501(c)4 affiliate of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). His work is rooted in enhancing the civic engagement, political participation, and impact of the American Muslim community in local, state, and federal elections.

On September 18, we will sit down with Basim for an intimate conversation on what it means to lead during these times, and hear from him on how he navigates building civic power in the face of unprecedented attacks on the Muslim community, civil rights, and our civic institutions. Register and join us for this inspiring and actionable conversation.
