The Stevens Center for Family Business has several components, including a major event series, membership program, and academic coursework in family business. The major event series offers presentations by nationally recognized experts in the field of family business, on subjects that address the particular issues which impact family owned firms. Welcome back to !

Every Monday, the Stevens Center highlights a different one of our members. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Bieri Hearing Specialists!

Bieri provides Mid-Michigan with expert hearing healthcare, including comprehensive evaluations and personalized hearing instrument fittings. They have locations in Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, and Frankenmuth.

The company was founded over 70 years ago by Gottlieb and Marie Bieri in Saginaw. Years later, Gottlieb's daughter, Cathy, took over the business and expanded it into the four locations that exist today. Now, Bieri continues the legacy as a family-run business, now led by the third generation.

In July of 2023, Sarah Roggenbuck and Dr. Melissa Menzies took over Bieri, together bringing over 40 years of experience in hearing healthcare, advancing the practice’s mission through innovation and empowering patients.

Every Monday, the Stevens Center highlights a different one of our members. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Trapani Communications!

For over 30 years, Trapani Communications has provided strategic communications planning, project implementation, public relations and issues management, and communications and social media support. They have worked with Fortune 500 companies, local and regional businesses, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations.

The company was founded by Stacey Trapani, who now serves as Senior Counsel. Her daughter, Taylor Trapani, is the current President and Owner, making Trapani Communications a certified Women's Business Enterprise.

The company has been involved in several local projects, including Saginaw County Change Management, Northwood University Alumni Magazine, Midland Public Schools Crisis Communications & Branding, Greater Midland Community Center Capital Campaign, and more. Their work in the community helps shape and bring narratives to life.

Every Monday, the Stevens Center highlights a different one of our members. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Serra Automotive!

Serra Automotive ranks among the top 10 privately held retail automotive groups in the nation. It includes 62 dealerships, 87 automotive franchises, and 27 automotive brands.

The company was founded by Albert Serra over 50 years ago as a single Chevrolet store. Since then, it has grown tremendously across several states while remaining headquartered in Michigan.

Current owner and Chairman Joseph Serra worked alongside his father, Albert, before purchasing the company from him in 2000. Joseph's son, Matt Serra, serves as President and CEO, representing the third generation of leadership at Serra Automotive.

Sequin Lumber Company is Bay City's oldest family-owned lumberyard. They supply quality building materials to the Tri-City and Standish areas. Sequin Lumber Company is committed to providing customers with innovate products and services that help build our communities.

Arthur Sequin started the company over 70 years ago on his family farm. Operations then moved to a lumberyard in Bay City and eventually expanded to a second location in Standish. It is currently under the third generation, run by Thomas Sequin Jr. with the help of his children.
