With deep sadness, we share the passing of SCFB Member Al Thieme, founder of Amigo Mobility International.
In 1968, Al invented the first power-operated vehicle, the Amigo, for a family member who had multiple sclerosis. What began as a solution for one person grew into a company that helps people and businesses worldwide, redefining accessible mobility and improving countless lives along the way. He will be truly missed.
“There was a need, and I saw it, and it has been the greatest honor of my life to help other people,” Al said.
Amigo Mobility remains a family-owned business, forever inspired by Al’s legacy and passion. Al passed away on Tuesday, March 3, surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer.
Amigo Mobility International has been a meaningful member of the SCFB since 2008 and a dedicated supporter of Saginaw Valley State University.
