I had the privilege of volunteering with Chicago Honor Flight today and meeting some truly wonderful people . I met Ron Onesti, who will be traveling with the veterans to Washington, D.C., and serving as a guardian for one of them. I also met Bill, a wonderful veteran. When he found out that I’m originally from Germany, he told me that he had been stationed in my hometown of Berlin from 1968 to 1971. Needless to say, we had a lot to talk about and shared some great memories and stories about Berlin. Bill told me he would love to go back someday—even if it’s just to have a real Berliner Currywurst again! It was such a special experience meeting Bill and all of these incredible veterans. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to volunteer and be part of Chicago Honor Flight.
