An interesting read for those in e-Commerce.

Product-based business owners, listen up! Like it or not, Amazon has our customers struggling to pay for shipping. I get asked a lot by clients how to price their products around the "shipping issue." This is especially common with products like candles or anything that weighs a lot. If you offer free shipping, you lose your shorts, and if you charge shipping, your product is too expensive in the customer's eyes.

Here's how we do it in our business. We make bundle packs. For example, to ship one bottle is almost the same as to ship two. So, we require two packs and offer a few dollars off for a two-pack. It's a win/win because the customer gets more for less and doesn't complain about the shipping because it is a smaller cost for what they are getting. Rarely do we sell just one bottle since we've done this. Our average size has gone up and customer satisfaction has gone up with it. Big win/win on both sides. Do you offer bundle packs? Is this something you want to try now in your small business?

Because the J-Month are slow and January is especially slow after big holiday sales, we came up with an idea to help drive engagement and list building. We made up a postcard to send out in all of our orders, encouraging our customers to send us pictures of our product in use or to tag us on social with their pictures. If we use their photos in our marketing, we give them a $10 credit to our store.

It's a win/win because they get free products, and we get free pictures. You should try it. What are you doing to keep things going during the slowest J month of the year?

Things in my business that just make sense and might help you too.

Planning and Batching Work - I plan my schedule for the week on Sunday. I find I'm way more productive if I schedule my day out in blocks where I work on specific departments of my business on the same day.

For example, I have five areas of my business I like to touch every week and make sure I'm staying on track. They are Operations, Sales and Marketing, Business Development, Administrative, and Customer Service.

I always start Monday morning with Administrative planning and reviewing the numbers from the week before. With your business, you have to be intentional and make sure you're touching each department each week to keep things on track; because a goal without a plan is just a wish. What are you working on today? It's a production day for us.

Are you on the struggle bus trying to work business with the littles and the new way of doing school?

In one of the masterminds I run, one of the gals asked me, "how do I do this?" I'm so overwhelmed, and I don't know if I can do the new normal and keep my business going.

Let me tell you, friend, everyone is feeling the same way.

It can become overwhelming and stressful. You can start to question yourself and wonder if you're ever going to get there.

Here's the deal. It's all about small steps added up consistently, day after day that turns into huge rewards. Keep making the calls, keep showing up, keep taking action CONSISTENTLY, and you'll get there.

Think about it this way, if you do just two things a day to move your business forward, EVERY DAY for a month, that is 60 things you will have done for your business. Think about how many things you will have done in a year.

This is the advice I have given my team for years. I would tell them if the end of the day has come and you haven't done anything for your business- you are better off throwing a catalog out the door because somebody will have to pick it up and they might see it and buy the products in it. All joking aside, it doesn't matter how big or small the two things you do are, just do two and don't quit, just because our regular routines are gone.

So my advice to you is to enjoy the time you have with the kids, the new normal will go away one day. What two things are you going to do for your business today?

By the way, the handsome little guy is my youngest grandson and he spent some time with me helping with the Amazon shipment at the office.
