Getting stranded in the desert isn’t just inconvenient—it can turn serious fast. A little prep makes a huge difference.

Here’s what you should always keep in your car:

Water (more than you think)
At least 1 gallon per person. In desert heat, dehydration hits quickly.

Electrolytes + non-perishable snacks
Think granola bars, jerky, or trail mix—something that won’t melt or spoil.

Portable phone charger / power bank
Your phone is your lifeline—don’t rely on your car battery.

Emergency shade
An umbrella, tarp, or even a reflective sunshade can protect you from direct sun.

Basic first aid kit
Bandages, antiseptic, and anything personal you might need.

Flashlight + extra batteries
Desert roads get very dark at night.

Jumper cables or portable jump starter
Heat kills batteries faster than people expect.

Tire repair kit + spare tire
Blowouts are common on hot pavement.

Coolant + extra fluids
Overheating is one of the biggest risks in desert driving.

Blanket or extra clothing
Sounds weird—but desert temps can drop quickly at night.
