Bud break arrived weeks ahead of usual, followed quickly by flowering - a reflection of the warm, dry start to the year.

Tea Party!
Grace Giovanetti of and her friend, Camille, joined us to learn how Aaron brews Fe Tea—a blend of compost, bone meal, feather meal, kelp, molasses, ox blood and love. The mixture will spend 48 hours in our Vortex Brewer before being applied to the vines through our drip irrigation system. The compost tea promotes health and beauty in the vineyard from the ground up.

All lots have gone through malolactic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is a process where tart malic acid in wine converts to softer, creamier lactic acid (the same acid found in milk). The process reduces acidity in wine, and adds a marvelous, velvety texture to the wine.

In the barrel! The 2024 vintage of Fe will now rest in French oak, a mix of new and neutral cooperage, for 17-19 months. This approach strikes a perfect balance between the bold character of new oak and the subtlety of previously used barrels.

This is one of our nest boxes placed to attract Western bluebirds and other songbirds. These birds are an integral part of our “Organic Airforce” providing support to our ecosystem by eradicating invasive insects. We also utilize a series of raptor boxes and perches designed to attract owls and hawks. These raptors feed on the moles, voles and gophers that attack the soil and root systems of our vines. This partnership allows us to farm our CCOF Organic vineyard without the use of insecticides or pesticides.
