Amizetta and Spencer Clark moved to the Napa Valley with one dream, to grow and make world class wines. They knew that many of the world’s top wines were produced from hillside vineyards in Europe. With this in mind, they scoured the Napa Valley for vineyard property and after intensive searching in 1979, discovered their perfect vineyard site. The property is a steep and rocky 40 acre parcel with

southern facing slopes at the tail end of Howell Mountain. With an elevation reaching over 1,000 feet, its beauty is matched only by its views of Lake Hennessey and the Napa Valley. Amizetta and Spencer knew right away, this was the ideal location for growing world class Cabernets and Bordeaux varietals from traditional hillside terraces. Spencer decided that the best way to compliment his new vineyard site was to name it after the love of his life. His wife was flattered and they named the property Amizetta (pronounced ahm-ah-zet-uh)Vineyards. Amizetta is a name passed down through the family over 15 generations. It comes from a Native American background and means “little friend.”

Since the original plantings at Amizetta Vineyards, Napa Valley has consistently regulated and even stopped hillside development. This is being done to help preserve natural mountain views around the valley. The halting of hillside development has made Amizetta Vineyards a unique and coveted property. It is one of the few terraced hillside vineyards in the Napa Valley. This type of hillside farming produces extremely rare old world mountain fruit. A taste of the wines extracted from these special vineyards will surely impress your palate.

An essential component of our viticultural practices, effective rainwater drainage and water management are paramount to the sustainability of our estate.

By embracing the benefits of spring rainfall, we reduce the need for irrigation, enrich our soil with vital nutrients, nourish emerging vine shoots, and promote deep root development. These seasonal rains also replenish our groundwater, which we carefully channel to Lake Hennessey.

Lake Hennessey, in turn, serves as a natural reservoir, providing a moderating "Lake Effect" throughout the growing season. This influence fosters the supple, balanced flavors that define Amizetta wines.

In a unassuming building in Napa, local artisans take years of growth, harvest, drying and travel and turn it into the stunning barrels we use to age our Estate wines. Demptos NAPA Cooperage receives their wooden staves from some of the best French Oak sources available and produces the barrels locally for Napa wineries. Toasting, manipulating, firing, and bending the wooden staves to create a barrel is a multistage process to ensure the quality we have come to expect out of Napa wines. We are proud to partner with such an amazing company with almost 200 years of experience and expertise to add the final touch to our wines and allow them to age beautifully in our wine cave prior to release.

In the early morning hours, as the sun starts to peek over the horizon, our team works hard to hand harvest our Merlot vineyard. The first fruit of 2023 to be harvested, our Merlot is already showing the structural elegance and vibrancy of flavor that Amizetta is so known for. As these grapes start their journey in the winemaking process, we wait in anticipation to share the 2023 vintage with you.

Following a warm and mild beginning of Summer, veraison on the Estate is well under way. Starting August 1st in our Merlot block, we can now see the stunning onset of ripening across our vineyards. Veraison, the change in the vines from producing (growing) fruit to ripening fruit, is a beautiful stage in a grapes season as each individual berry changes color depending on its needs. From now until harvest, the clusters increase in sugar content until we get the perfect berries to harvest and turn into your favorite wine.

After growing up in Texas, Spencer and Amizetta decided to take a leap of faith and step away from their family’s Agricultural and Livestock backgrounds to pursue their own farming dreams. After three visits to northern California, they settled on a stunning piece of property in Napa overlooking Lake Hennessey. While it required tremendous amounts of work, the soil, climate and view made it worthwhile for them and the future of their family. Building the winery, their home and planting the vineyards themselves, Spencer and Amizetta created the foundation of Amizetta Estate Winery and continue to be the heart of this dream.
