Meet Newton.

Some names carry a little more meaning than others.

This week, Newton’s owners, Nick and Patti Livanos, welcomed the newest member of their family: a six-month-old puppy named Newton.

The name is deeply personal.

After losing their beautiful Napa Valley home in the 2020 Glass Fire, and their beloved dog, Baxter, in 2024, this little pup represents a new chapter. Just as Newton Vineyard continues its own restoration on Spring Mountain, Newton has brought new life, joy, and optimism into their home.

At just over nine pounds, he’s already full of personality. With striking blue merle markings, two uniquely colored blue eyes, and an endlessly happy, affectionate temperament, he’s impossible not to fall in love with. The best part? He’ll be joining two other amazing pups! His sisters Amber Skye (named after the sunsets the Livanos family grew so fond of viewing from the home they lost) & Ginger Rose.

His name is a reminder that rebuilding isn’t just about vineyards and w**eries. It’s about home, family, and looking forward with hope.

One day, when we’re welcoming guests back to Spring Mountain, don’t be surprised if you find Newton greeting visitors with a wagging tail.

Until then, we’ll keep rebuilding together, one vintage, one vine, and now... one puppy at a time.

This week, our crews are hard at work on Spring Mountain and Mount Veeder, bringing in the 2026 harvest at our estate vineyards. It’s one of the most exciting times of the year, when months of decisions in the vineyard finally become fruit in the w**ery.

For w**e lovers, one of the most fascinating tastings in the years ahead won’t just be comparing different vineyards. It will be tasting the 2023 and 2026 Napa Valley vintages side by side.

Even though Newton didn’t get to make a 2023 vintage, the growing season was defined by patience. A cool spring and mild summer extended the growing season, allowing grapes to ripen gradually over one of Napa Valley’s latest harvests in recent decades. The resulting w**es have been widely praised by w**emakers for their balance, freshness, and depth.

The 2026 season has followed a very different path. An early start to the growing season, combined with multiple summer heat events, accelerated ripening across Napa Valley. In many vineyards, harvest began weeks ahead of the historical average, making it one of the earliest seasons in recent memory.

Neither vintage is “better.” They’re simply different.

That’s what makes w**e so compelling. The vineyard may stay the same, but the weather never does. Temperature, sunlight, rainfall, and the timing of each season shape the fruit in ways no w**emaker can fully replicate.

Years from now, tasting a Napa Valley Cabernet from 2023 beside one from 2026 will be a reminder that great w**e is not only a reflection of place, but also of time.

As another harvest comes in at Newton and One Lane Bridge Vineyard, we’re grateful to our harvest crews, our w**emaking team, and everyone helping write the next chapter of Newton. Every vintage leaves its fingerprint, and we’re proud to be rebuilding a legacy one harvest at a time.

Acclaimed Napa Valley w**emaker returns to Newton Vineyard after nearly three decades.

We are honored to announce the appointment of acclaimed w**emaker Luc Morlet as Winemaker, a remarkable return to the Spring Mountain estate where Morlet began an important chapter of his California w**emaking career three decades ago.

For Newton, the appointment represents far more than a new addition to the w**emaking team. It reconnects the estate’s future with a significant part of its past as Newton continues rebuilding under new ownership.

Morlet joined Newton Vineyard in 1996 and spent five harvests at the estate. During that period, he crafted Newton’s celebrated Unfiltered Chardonnay and played a central role in developing Newton’s Bordeaux-variety program while working alongside internationally renowned Bordeaux consultant Michel Rolland.

Morlet now returns to the mountain, 30 years later.

If you ask a w**emaker about Newton, you’ll often hear the same thing:

“There’s some amazing dirt up there.”

It might sound like a simple statement, but it’s one of the highest compliments a vineyard can receive.

The fruit is looking fantastic as we move closer to harvest, and it all starts beneath the vines. Newton’s vineyards sit on a complex mix of volcanic and sedimentary soils that are naturally rocky and well-drained. Rather than encouraging vigorous growth, these soils challenge the vines, limiting their vigor and directing more of the plant’s energy into the fruit.

The result is smaller berries with concentrated flavors, balanced acidity, and the structure that has made Spring Mountain one of Napa Valley’s most respected w**egrowing regions.

Great w**e is made in the vineyard. And at Newton, it begins with some pretty incredible dirt.

Long before Spring Mountain became one of Napa Valley’s most celebrated w**egrowing regions, it earned its name from something much simpler: water.

Interestingly, there isn’t actually a single mountain called “Spring Mountain.” The name refers to the forested ridgeline west of St. Helena, where countless natural springs emerge from the mountainside. As early as the 1870s, local newspapers and residents were referring to the area as “Spring Mountain,” and for more than 50 years its springs supplied much of the town of St. Helena with fresh water.

Not long after, pioneers began discovering that these rugged hillsides could produce extraordinary grapes. By the late 1800s, vineyards had taken root throughout the district, helping establish Spring Mountain as one of Napa Valley’s earliest mountain w**egrowing regions. Today, its combination of elevation, volcanic and sedimentary soils, cooler temperatures, and long growing season continues to produce w**es known for freshness, structure, and longevity.

When Peter and Su Hua Newton founded Newton Vineyard in 1977, they chose Spring Mountain for those very reasons. They believed the mountain’s unique terroir could produce w**es of remarkable balance and character, a philosophy that continues to guide us today.

As we rebuild Newton, we’re reminded that this mountain has always been defined by resilience. Long before there was a w**ery here, there were springs. Long before there were buildings, there were vines. We’re simply honored to help write the next chapter of a place whose story has been unfolding for more than a century.

While some vineyards are being removed, we’re planting.

Across California, the w**e industry is navigating a period of significant change. Vineyard acreage has been pulled as growers respond to shifting demand, rising costs, and an evolving market. At Newton, our response is to look ahead.

We are replanting.

A vineyard is an investment measured not in months, but in decades. Replanting means making decisions today for w**es that will be made years from now—choosing what to plant, where to plant it, and how each block can best express its place.

This year marks our upcoming second harvest under new ownership, another step in rebuilding from the vineyard up. Alongside the vines already producing fruit, young plantings represent something equally important: a commitment to what comes next.

They will need time.

New vines require years to establish themselves before meaningful production begins, and even longer before we fully understand what they can become in a particular site. That patience is part of farming. There are no shortcuts to an old vineyard.

Our mission is not simply to make the next vintage. It is to steward these sites with the expectation that they will produce w**e for decades to come.

Planting a vineyard is our act of optimism.

Harvest timing is never determined by the calendar alone.

Temperature, vine development, and fruit chemistry all play a role, and each variety reaches maturity on its own schedule. Chardonnay and sparkling w**e grapes are often picked first to preserve freshness and acidity, while mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, like ours on Spring Mountain, is typically among the last to come in.

An early start to harvest isn’t unprecedented. The 2015 vintage also began remarkably early, with some of Napa Valley’s first fruit arriving on July 22 after a warm growing season accelerated vine development. While every vintage is unique, 2026 is shaping up to follow a similarly early pace across much of the valley.

For Newton, 2015 was also one of the final full vintages produced before the challenges that would forever change the estate. Just five years later, the Glass Fire swept through Spring Mountain, and Newton’s w**ery was lost.

Now, as we prepare for another early harvest, the story feels very different.

This will be only our second harvest under new ownership. Every hose sanitized, every barrel prepared, and every vineyard walk is another step in restoring one of Napa Valley’s great mountain estates. The vines have never stopped believing in another season.

Neither have we.

Harvest doesn’t begin the day the first grapes arrive. It starts long before that.

Across the custom crush facility, their team is preparing every barrel, hose, fitting, valve, and piece of equipment for the weeks ahead. Every detail matters because once harvest begins, there’s no pause button.

While the calendar still says summer, harvest is already underway in parts of Napa Valley. Several w**eries have already brought in their first fruit, and we’re anticipating a slightly earlier harvest this year as the growing season continues to advance.

Of course, not every grape ripens at the same pace. White varieties are often the first to be picked, followed by earlier-ripening reds, while mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, like ours on Spring Mountain, is typically among the last to come in.

Every block and every variety is harvested when the fruit reaches the balance our w**emaker is looking for, not simply on a set date.

For us, harvest is a season of patience, preparation, and precision. The work happening now ensures we’re ready when the vineyard tells us it’s time.

In the cellar, our 2025 w**es continue their quiet evolution in barrel. Each tasting reveals a little more harmony, a little more depth, and another glimpse of the stunning w**es they are becoming.

The vineyard tells a different story.

As temperatures climb across Napa Valley, our vines respond with remarkable resilience. During periods of intense heat, grapevines naturally conserve water by slowing photosynthesis and relying on a healthy canopy to shade and protect the developing fruit. It’s one of nature’s many reminders that great vineyards are built by balance.

While last vintage matures in the quiet of the cellar, this vintage continues to capture the beauty of Spring Mountain in its own unique way.
