This morning, our Pine Island Pest Control team joined members and volunteers at the German American Social Club of Cape Coral, Florida to help get ready for Oktoberfest — tables, chairs, coffee, pastries, teamwork, and plenty of community spirit. ☕🥨🎉

We’re proud to support a local organization that brings people together through family fun, culture, music, food, fundraisers, and community events — and proud to help keep the grounds ready with our fire-ant protection program. 🌴🐜

🧜‍♀️🌴 A little behind-the-scenes look at what it took to bring our mermaid to life! 🎨✨

What started as a blank wooden mermaid turned into a family project full of paint, sea glass, shells, sand, rope, late nights and a lot of teamwork. ❤️ We were grateful for the chance to come together, represent Pine Island Pest Control, and support a great local cause. 🌊🐚 Big thanks to Nichole Sons & Jeannie Suns for bringing our mermaid to life. She is beautiful! 😍

Today’s 6th Annual Adopt a Mermaid Wall Art Fundraiser Auction is the culmination of weeks of work by the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, artists and volunteers. 🙌 The mermaids have been displayed around the island to bring people into local businesses, enjoy the art and place pre-bids. Proceeds benefit Pine Island businesses and the Calusa Land Trust, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to protecting Pine Island’s natural lands, wildlife habitat and the character that makes our community so special. 🌴🦋🐢

On Sept. 25, Pine Island FISH and Pine Island Pest Control delivered a donation of school supplies to the Pine Island Elementary (PIE) School. Also included were two checks — one from each donor — so the school could buy urgently needed supplies, such as copy toner.

🐾🌴 A little behind-the-scenes look at what community means to us.

This week we spent some time volunteering at Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary in St. James City — cleaning, sweeping, mopping, feeding, organizing supplies, scooping litter, and of course making time for a few cat cuddles along the way. 🐱❤️

It may not be glamorous work, but it matters. Every clean space, every filled bowl, every organized shelf, and every extra set of hands helps the sanctuary keep doing what they do for local cats in need.

We’re proud to support organizations like Helping Paws because being part of Pine Island means more than just doing business here. It means showing up, pitching in, and helping take care of the community that supports us. 🤝🌴

🐾❤️ A little love for one of the great organizations right here on Pine Island!

We’re proud to volunteer with Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary in St. James City, helping clean, organize, feed, and spend time with the cats. Sometimes even our little ones get to join in, which makes it even more special. 🐱🌴

Helping Paws does a lot for local cats in need, and they depend on the community to keep it going. They’re always looking for:

* 🏡 Loving homes for adoptable cats and kittens

What did Jim Wentz do when no one volunteered to lead Pine Island F.I.S.H. — Fellow Islanders Sending Help?
Jim volunteered himself!
And after talking with Jim, we discovered that he and Jan don't simply run an organization. They are part of the volunteer team, the administrative team, the fundraising team, the coordination team—and when a volunteer isn't available, they step in themselves.
At the heart of F.I.S.H. is something very Pine Island:
❤️ People taking care of people.
But there's one thing F.I.S.H. needs more of: volunteers.
✨ “The only thing we don’t have is a big enough volunteer base. Partly that’s a blessing, partly that’s a curse.”

Maybe you've thought:
“I'd love to volunteer, but I just don't have much time.”
Jim has an answer for that.
✨ “We don’t have a normal volunteer structure. It’s not one day a week or one week a month or one month out of the year. It’s when our phone rings, we call a volunteer and see if they’re available to take somebody to a doctor’s appointment…”
You don't have to commit to a regular schedule. When someone needs help, F.I.S.H. calls volunteers to see who is available.
And Jim says you can simply call the F.I.S.H. phone line at 239-283-4442 and ask to be contacted about volunteering.
Sometimes a couple of hours is all it takes to make a difference in a neighbor's life. ❤️

🌱 THE FERTILIZER BLACKOUT IS OVER—BUT EVERY LAWN STILL NEEDS A DIFFERENT PLAN!

Nitrogen is back on the table in Lee County and Cape Coral, but applying fertilizer to a wet, stressed or diseased lawn can make certain problems worse. That’s why we treat based on our findings—not simply because the calendar changed.

We’re also preparing for:

🌿 Winter weeds: Pre-emergent timing matters. Too early can waste protection; too late means weeds may already be growing.

🍄 Brown patch, also called large patch: Cooler, damp weather can cause spreading brown circles in St. Augustine and zoysia. Waiting too long may mean larger damaged areas and a longer recovery.

🐛 Chinch bugs, webworms, mole crickets and grubs: These can resemble disease, drought or irrigation trouble, so proper identification matters.

Our Total Lawn Protection Program includes:

✅ Monthly visits
✅ Treatment customized to each property
✅ Fertilization and micronutrients when appropriate
✅ W**d, insect and disease management based on our findings
✅ Additional treatments between scheduled visits at no charge when needed

Small lawn problems can become costly repairs when ignored. If your grass is yellowing, thinning, developing brown patches or filling with weeds, the sooner we inspect it, the sooner we can start correcting the cause.

🌴❤️ COMMUNITY HELPING COMMUNITY ❤️🌴

Today was one of those reminders of what makes Pine Island so special.

Thanks to the generosity of our customers and community, we were able to collect approximately $250 in donations for Pine Island Elementary. Pine Island Pest Control matched that with another $250, and Pine Island FISH (Fellow Islanders Sending Help) contributed an additional $250, bringing the total support to $750 for the school. 🙌🎒📚

A huge thank-you to Dr. Michael Galbreath, Principal of Pine Island Elementary, for welcoming us and for everything he and his team do for our local students.

We also want to recognize Pine Island FISH, along with Jim and Janet Wentz, for helping make this possible. FISH is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to helping our Pine Island and Matlacha neighbors, and we’re grateful to partner with people who care so deeply about this community.

Special thanks as well to everyone who supported us at Winn-Dixie, MangoMania, and Ono D’Oro European Market, and most importantly to our customers and community members who donated. Every dollar, every supply, and every bit of support added up. ❤️
