At our fourth annual Latinos Connect event, we felt blessed to recognize people who are making a difference in our community.

We are especially grateful to have conservatives and progressives together in the same room. Both are important to the progress of our cities, and we want everyone to have a place at the table. Moving forward takes conversation, relationships, and a willingness to work together.

Our goals are clear, and so is our commitment to our community. Thank you to every person who joined us.

Congratulations to Christian Lopez and Dr. Muller on their recognition. Thank you to Professor Ness Sandoval for being part of this special evening, and to U.S. Bank and Americo for sponsoring the event.

Four years ago, Richard Nolf invited Latinos Connect to learn about The Open Door Food Kitchen and support its work in St. Joseph. He told us about the effort it takes to serve meals to our community every day.

When Hispanic Heritage Month arrived, we decided to take part by sharing Latino food. That first day of service became a tradition we have continued for four years.

Today, Latinos Connect, Youth Alliance, and volunteers from the Cuban and Venezuelan communities joined forces at The Open Door Food Kitchen to help serve more than 285 meals.

We thank everyone who cooked, served, and gave their time. When organizations and communities work together, we create more opportunities to get to know one another and help more people feel that they belong in St. Joseph.

We look forward to continuing this work together.

We had a wonderful community dinner filled with meaningful conversations, new connections, and fresh ideas.

A special thank-you to Kelly Thompson for Jackson County , a candidate for Jackson County’s 1st District, for joining us as our guest speaker and sharing her vision with our community. As Latinos, it is important to create spaces where we can hear new voices, learn about different ideas, and actively participate in the conversations shaping our future.

Humanitarian aid collected in St. Joseph and other communities across the Kansas City metropolitan area is now arriving at the warehouse, where it will be placed on pallets for its next destination: Miami. From there, it will be shipped to Venezuela to help families affected by the devastating earthquakes.

The truck will depart this Monday carrying all of the donations made possible not only by Venezuelans living in Kansas and Missouri, but also by friends and supporters from many other nationalities who joined this humanitarian effort.

Current estimates indicate that around 70,000 people remain missing, while an initial official report confirms at least 1,400 people have lost their lives.

Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, or helped spread the word. Every contribution brings hope to those who need it most.

When a Latino grows their business, we all move forward. And when we do it as a community, we go farther, stronger, and better.
