I spent years in telecom before deciding I didn’t want to be limited to one provider.

The best solution for one business can be completely wrong for another. Same city, same number of employees, different needs.

That’s why I started Daz Communications. I wanted to compare providers and recommend what makes sense, not force every business into one company’s products.

Sometimes the right move is a new phone system. Sometimes it’s backup internet. Sometimes it’s keeping what you have and fixing the contract.

I’d rather help a business make the right decision than sell something it doesn’t need.

Yes, one business number can route calls to several teams, offices, or people working remotely.

The harder part is deciding what the customer actually experiences. Sales calls shouldn't end up in billing. After-hours callers shouldn't reach a dead extension. And nobody wants to press six buttons to reach a person.

A phone system is only as useful as the call flow somebody designed.

Having two internet connections sounds great.

But I want to know three things.

Will the backup activate when the primary fails?

Can it handle the systems the business actually needs?

And does it depend on the same equipment that could go down?

A backup connection you haven't tested is still a question mark.

When should you compare internet or phone providers before renewal? Before you're down to the last few weeks.

Availability checks, installation dates, number transfers, and contract terms can take time. I like to review what a business needs next before it signs up for another term of what it needed three years ago.

That fax machine sitting in the corner deserves another look.

A lot of businesses still use fax. Medical offices, law firms, financial institutions and plenty of others.

The problem isn't necessarily the machine.

It's the old phone line behind it.

As carriers retire copper networks, businesses should review whether their fax systems need a different connection or service.

And not every fax machine works properly with every VoIP setup.

Buying cybersecurity software doesn't answer the most important question: who's responsible for it?

Who looks at alerts? Who removes access after an employee leaves? Who can isolate a device when something suspicious happens?

Those answers matter more than a long list of features. The software is one part of the job. Somebody still has to own the process.

Moving your business phones to the cloud doesn't magically eliminate outages.

Cloud phone systems can be great. I'm a big fan of what they can do.

But if your office loses internet, what happens to incoming calls?

Can employees answer through an app? Does forwarding kick in? Is there another internet connection?

These are things I want answered before recommending a new system.

Before you sign another phone contract, look at these five things.

1. How many users actually need a license? 2. Are you paying for unused phone numbers? 3. What happens when someone leaves the company? 4. Are you paying extra for features nobody uses? 5. What does it cost to cancel or make changes?

A cheaper monthly quote doesn't always mean a cheaper contract.

What does 'up to 1 Gig' actually tell you about a business internet connection?

Not enough to make a decision. You still need to know the upload speed, whether performance is guaranteed, how trouble tickets are handled, and which service commitments are written into the agreement.

A 1 Gig plan can be a great fit. I just wouldn't choose it from one big number on a flyer.
