The Mitchell Hamline Law Review is excited to highlight a Note from Volume 52, Issue 3: "Rebalancing the Milk Market: A Shared-Burden Framework for Dairy and Plant-Based Producers" by Isabelle Ulrich.

This Note examines the regulatory imbalance between traditional dairy and plant-based milk producers, arguing that plant-based producers benefit from competitive advantages without sharing the financial or regulatory burdens their dairy counterparts face. Ulrich proposes a shared-burden framework requiring all entities marketing "milk" to contribute equally to promotional and regulatory funds.

The Mitchell Hamline Law Review is proud to spotlight a Note from Volume 52, Issue 3: "Justice for the Accomplice: Minnesota's 2023 Accomplice Liability Amendment and Its Shortcomings" by John M. Thompson — recipient of the Ainsworth Memorial Award for Legal Innovation and Impact, presented by Mitchell Hamline's Center for Law and Business.

This Note analyzes Minnesota's recent reforms to the intersection of its accomplice liability and felony-murder laws. While recognizing the 2023 amendment as a meaningful step forward, Thompson argues that the reform does not go far enough — and that further change is needed to ensure that punishment reflects actual culpability.

The Mitchell Hamline Law Review is proud to spotlight a Note from Volume 52, Issue 3: "Premium Injustice: Addressing the Harms That Cash Bail Premiums Inflict on the Non-Convicted" by Jeffrey L. Young. Young is a student in Mitchell Hamline's Prison to Law Pipeline program and will soon be one of the first incarcerated individuals in the United States to graduate from law school and sit for the bar exam.

The United States is one of only two countries in the world that permits commercial cash bail. This Note examines the case for refunding cash bail premiums to individuals who are never convicted—whether found not guilty or whose charges are dropped. Drawing on the presumption of innocence, the racial inequities embedded in cash bail, and existing refund models, Young argues that the government should return these premiums to the non-convicted. The Mitchell Hamline Law Review is proud to highlight an article from Volume 52, Issue 3: "Vicarious Liability in Sexual Misconduct Cases in Minnesota" by Professor Mike Steenson, Bell Distinguished Professor of Law at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and Faculty Advisor to the Law Review.

This article examines when employers can be held vicariously liable for sexual misconduct committed by their employees, and why Minnesota's approach to that question is unique in American law.

The Mitchell Hamline Law Review was proud to host our Volume 52 Banquet last night, bringing together our legal community for an evening of celebration.

The evening featured a powerful keynote from Katherine Roe, who spoke about the lawyers of all specialties and backgrounds who showed up for community during Operation Metro Surge. We also had the honor of presenting the Wallace-Lerner Award for Excellence in Leadership to Jevon Bindman in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the legal profession. And to top it all off, Minnesota’s own all-judge band The Reasonable Doubts brought the house down!
