I’m rebooting my Hero Props Patreon to support the STEAM education work I’m doing, in addition to my own art and theater work. This summer I’ve got three big projects I’m working on:
Droid Builder Camp w/The Bakken Museum We’re sold out! We’ve got 24 kids signed up for a week in July when we’re gonna make some cool droids and learn some stuff. I plan to document the droid work I’ve been doing that builds on the work of Michael Baddeley’s 3D Printed Droids community. I’m actively looking for future opportunities to teach this camp or variations on it, if you’re interested give me a shout!
Action Figure Workshops: Also in July I’m teaching an Action Figure Building workshop w/Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Twin Cities! This one has 30 slots, 15 pairs of “bigs and littles”, who will learn a bit about 3D design and printing and walk away with their own articulated toys that they assemble themselves. I’d love to find more opportunities to teach this one too. Maybe even for Big Kids….
“Minnesota is the Shire, or Fair & Back Again” @ the Minnesota Fringe this August 5th-15th. I’m in the process of creating a one-person show about my love for Tolkien and Minnesota, ways our culture parallels that of the Shire, and how in a real way we just survived our own version of The Scouring, the penultimate chapter of Return of the King that Peter Jakshon excluded from the movie. There may also be a robo-loon. I have shows both Saturdays of Fringe and plan to invite as many cosplayers as I can, so if you’ve got a Middle Earth character you love to portray I especially want you to come see my show!
If you’d like to follow along for info on all three projects, please join my Patreon! I’ll be posting a lot of information on all three projects in Public posts that don’t require a paid subscription, and if you’ve are so inclined I have very low Membership Tiers for the exclusive content I’ll be producing. It’s going to be a weird mix of electronics, theater stagecraft, and Tolkien scholarship, and whatever other random stuff my old creative brain decides to kick out. Thanks y’all!
