A good read for the times we are leading in....

"We need leaders who manifest a moral capacity to embrace the nuance and complexity to which we’ve become allergic, come what may — to take a stand for progress, even if incremental or imperfect.

Indeed, effective leadership requires managing nuance and complexity, seeing all sides of an issue from the perspective of every stakeholder, and then setting a course, and communicating with clarity, consistent with common values.

After all, no courage? No leadership. We cannot move forward, however unevenly, without courageous visionaries blazing new paths that illuminate the way for all of us to follow."

Those in positions of leadership fear they will say the wrong thing, or say what they believe to be the right thing in the wrong way.

Don’t let the colonizer make you believe you have to be accessible to everyone at all moments. Love is creating boundaries. Love is encouraging boundaries. Love is respecting boundaries.

Excited to celebrate Seitu Jones today! See his message below:

You have heard it's my birthday. On my 60th birthday, I invited you into my studio to share a lifetime of artwork. Today, as I reflect on my life, my practice and my legacy, it is with a combination of hope and urgency that I enter this next chapter of my life. I am focused on creating and preserving my artwork and most importantly, honoring and celebrating all of the relationships I have cultivated over the years. In addition to continuing my creative practice, I will begin my 70th year with a new dedication to archiving, cataloguing and sharing decades of my art and practice with all of you, my beloved community.

Today, I launch The Black Gate, an institution and fund that will support my efforts and serve as a template to promote and preserve my work and the work of other African American artists. To help celebrate my birthday I want to offer you the first opportunity to contribute to The Black Gate Fund, make a gift today and sign up for our future emails on the legacy page of my website.
