Excited to celebrate Seitu Jones today! See his message below:

You have heard it's my birthday. On my 60th birthday, I invited you into my studio to share a lifetime of artwork. Today, as I reflect on my life, my practice and my legacy, it is with a combination of hope and urgency that I enter this next chapter of my life. I am focused on creating and preserving my artwork and most importantly, honoring and celebrating all of the relationships I have cultivated over the years. In addition to continuing my creative practice, I will begin my 70th year with a new dedication to archiving, cataloguing and sharing decades of my art and practice with all of you, my beloved community.

Today, I launch The Black Gate, an institution and fund that will support my efforts and serve as a template to promote and preserve my work and the work of other African American artists.
