This is the part that didn't fit.

Growing up, I was the fat kid in a family of star athletes. I called myself the black sheep. I said it like a joke for years, and I believed every word.

That sentence ran my life long after the weight came off. It told me I had to earn my place. It told me I'd never measure up. It sounded like me, so I never asked where it came from.

When God found Adam hiding, He asked one question. "Who told you that you were naked?"

He wanted the source.

Do that this week.
Write the sentence you keep hearing.
Write who said it first.
Ask if they ever had the right to name you.
Then write what God says about you underneath it, and read that out loud every morning.

The old voice will push back. Keep reading.

I was an All-American offensive lineman at Southern Miss.
For years my whole sense of who I was came from the field.
If I played well, I mattered.
If I didn't, I didn't.

The week after my final game, I had double knee surgery.
The jersey came off for good.
I had no idea who I was without it.

That's the danger with building yourself on wins.
They always end.
The title. The streak. The season. The body that could do it.

Paul wrote to men who'd lost their standing and told them where their life was kept.
Hidden with Christ.

Nobody plans to sell out. A man sells out one small yes at a time, usually when he's tired, behind, and wanting something badly.

That's why Daniel matters to me. He was young, far from home, and eating at the king's table. Going along would've been easy, and nobody back home would've known.

He decided before the plate showed up.

You can do the same thing today, while nobody's asking.
Name your three lines.
Write them down.
Hand them to one man who'll check on you.

Then when the offer comes, and it will, you won't be negotiating with yourself. You'll be remembering what you already decided.
