Congrats to Attorney General Josh Kaul, who joined Governor Tony Evers on December 6th, 2021, to sign into legislation a bill that intends to prevent a future backlog in untested r**e kits in Wisconsin. Kaul started campaigning for this bill two years ago and commends the AG’s Sexual Assault Response Team and the countless other brought together to make this bill a law.

Health care professionals are to notify law enforcement within 24 hours after a r**e kits collection under this new bill–” Law enforcement then has 72 hours to collect the kit and 14 days to send it to the lab. There the kit is stored for up to 10 years, whether or not the victim decides to report the assault to law enforcement.”

While there is still more work to be done, this is a huge win and step towards ending the backlog!
