One of the most powerful moments in our conversation with Darnell Butler of Arts Conservatory for Teens was this: ACT doesn't ask kids to come to them. They go to the kids' schools, rec centers, and community spaces throughout Tampa Bay — and for students for whom transportation is genuinely the barrier, they operate two vans that pick them up from home. It is a simple operational decision that says something significant about what this organization actually values. Access isn't just a talking point for ACT. It is baked into how they run the program every single day.

When we take in perspectives from every walk of life, we see opportunities we never would’ve spotted on our own. That’s how organizations evolve in ways that are bigger, smarter, and more unexpected than any single viewpoint could create.

Some conversations hit deeper than others. When you look into your kids’ eyes and realize the world they’re watching doesn’t always reflect the values you’re trying to teach, it changes everything.

Bringing people together is about choosing responsibility, not about choosing sides. It’s about showing the next generation that empathy, respect, and understanding are still possible, even when leadership makes it feel rare.

As long as we’re here, we can choose to do the work that brings people closer instead of pushing them apart. That’s the kind of example worth fighting for.
