Forage Focus Friday: Teff Grass 🌱

When spring doesn’t go according to plan, having a summer annual forage option can make a big difference.

Whether an alfalfa stand came out of winter thinner than expected, drought has put pressure on forage supplies, or you simply need additional tonnage in a short window, Bonus Teff Grass is built to help fill the gap.

Bonus is a fine-stemmed, warm-season annual grass that can produce multiple crops of high-quality forage in a short growing season. It offers strong forage quality, fast growth, high yield potential, and a fine-textured hay that is often compared to timothy.

A few reasons teff fits right now:

✅ Fast-growing summer annual forage
✅ Excellent option for emergency forage needs
✅ Good fit when additional summer tonnage is needed
✅ Fine-stemmed, high-quality hay for multiple classes of livestock
✅ Strong option for drought-stressed or water-limited conditions once established
✅ No prussic acid concerns like some other warm-season annuals

For optimum forage quality, target harvest at the pre-boot to early boot stage, around 50 days after planting. Leave a 3–4 inch cutting height to support regrowth, with additional harvest typically ready in 35–45 days depending on growing conditions.

We currently have Bonus Teff available. Reach out to your distributor or a Mountain View Seeds rep for availability and planting recommendations.

Forage Focus Friday 🌱

With fertility costs top of mind, white clover can bring a lot more to the pasture than ground cover.

At roughly 20–30% of the total forage stand, white clover can help contribute organic nitrogen back into the system, supporting the surrounding grass while helping reduce reliance on synthetic nitrogen applications.

For producers, that can make clover a practical tool for helping offset fertility costs while improving the overall value of the pasture.

That’s where Stamina White Clover fits in.

Stamina is an intermediate-type white clover selected for higher forage yield, excellent persistence, and durability under grazing pressure. Its aggressive growth pattern, stolon density, and rooting ability help it hold up in grazing systems over time, making it a strong fit for pastures, wildlife habitat, and erosion control.

Beyond fertility support, incorporating legumes like white clover into a grass pasture can help improve forage quality and digestibility, supporting both pasture performance and animal performance.

Stamina is built to add value where it matters: in the stand, in the soil, and in the bottom line. Check out mtviewseeds.com for more information.

This week marks an exciting step for Rori Bentz, as she graduates from college and officially joins the Mountain View Seeds team full time. She’ll be transitioning from her part time role as Administrative Assistant into the processing team, helping support both domestic and international orders.

Rori’s path to MVS is a great example of how opportunities can grow over time. She first got her start with Pratum working at one of the gas stations, and after getting her foot in the door, worked her way into an Administrative Assistant role.

We’re excited to have Rori stepping into this new role and continuing to grow with the team. The consistency and attention to detail she brings make a big impact behind the scenes.

Welcome full time, Rori!
