“I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious endeavor.” -- Henry David Thoreau. What is something that is important enough to you that you have made it your conscious endeavor to achieve? You have the power to choose. If you don't, someone or something else might choose for you.

Fill in the blank: "My only purpose on this planet is to _______. It's what I was meant to do. And nothings going to stop me." I love this from the Pixar movie Soul. What's your purpose? Or another way of asking, what's the most important thing for you? Looking ahead, has the most important thing changed, or moved? Are you chasing an outdated/unrealistic target?

If you knew you needed to drink 64 ounces of water day, which way would be most effective for you? 1) Add a 10 oz glass of water each day and be up 70 ounces in one week 2) Fill a 1/2 gallon jug every day and make yourself drink it...? Even though it may take 7 days, if you successfully added just one glass of water each day, one week isn't that long. Especially if after 3 days of trying to drink a whole 1/2 gallon and never making the goal you gave up. Now, how can you see example 1) translating into other areas of your life?

Self reflection quote of the day followed by a coaching question. "No matter what we're doing on the outside, people respond primarily to how we're feeling about them on the inside." Do you see people as people with needs that are important like you or do you see people as objects and not as important as you? How might you be deceiving yourself by saying you are a genuine and caring leader?

This morning in one of the newsletters I subscribe to I read this quote, "Maturity is learning how to start when you feel like procrastinating and learning how to listen when you feel like talking." I'd like to think I'm a mature person and what I did to stop procrastinating and move to action was to join Gretchen Rubin's Happiness Project Experience 2021. I'm intentionally working through each month of the year with a focused goal. I have great thinkers to listen to and learn from and a community for support. As a coach, what can I do to help you move into ACTION for 2021?

The road less travelled may not be the one with the least amount of traffic. The road least travelled for you, a challenge for you, a fear faced for you, may be going down main street for someone else. What is the road less travelled you've had the courage to take recently or have resolved to take?

"If all that I would want to do would be to sit and talk to you... would you listen?" Ann Ashford. I started 2021 listening to Matthew McConaughey's book Greenlights. I love this quote. Listening is something I want to get better at in 2021. What is on your list?

Have you asked a good question today?
The physicist Isidor Isaac Rabi on the importance of good questions (and good mothers):
“My mother made me a scientist without ever intending to.
Every other Jewish mother in Brooklyn would ask her child after school: 'So? Did you learn anything today?'
But not my mother.
'Izzy,' she would say, 'did you ask a good question today?'
That difference — asking good questions — made me become a scientist.”

I have a number of coaching clients that have told me lately they're looking forward to a reset. This morning I caught myself looking at the calendar and thinking, "oh good, today's the last day of May, tomorrow will be a new month." When I imagine a reset, a new month, a fresh start, what does that feel like? I know it doesn't feel like doing the same things I did in May and hoping for a better result. I have to change something; a mindset, a limiting belief, a bias behavior. Thinking about it isn't enough. What will I do? One thing I'm going to practice is to listen more intently. To stay in curiosity longer and be much slower to judgement and advice giving. What will you do differently? And how will your experience change because of that?

A friend sent this to me and I found it very appropriate for right now. "And the people sat still and the earth healed and Spring came, flowers bloomed, brightening hope and beauty back into the world…" I'm learning what it is to be still. What happens when you're still?
