Subject: Important Update: New U.S. Visa Application Guidelines Regarding Social Media
Dear Students, Parents, and Sponsors,
We hope this message finds you well.
We are writing to inform you of an important update from the U.S. State Department regarding the visa application process for international students.
As of Wednesday, the U.S. State Department has resumed processing student visa applications for foreign nationals. However, please be advised that all applicants are now required to provide access to their social media accounts as part of the visa screening process. This includes disclosing usernames or handles from various platforms used over the past five years.
According to the department, consular officers will review social media activity for any content that may be considered hostile to the United States, its government, institutions, culture, or founding principles. The goal of this measure, as stated by officials, is to enhance national security by identifying potential risks early in the visa process.
We understand this may raise questions or concerns, and we are here to support you. While you are encouraged to continue expressing yourself freely and authentically, we advise you to be mindful that consular officers may interpret online activity in ways that could affect your visa eligibility.
If you have any questions or would like assistance in preparing for your visa interview, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the International Student Office at 971-375-7538
We remain committed to helping you navigate these changes and supporting your educational journey in the United States.
Warm regards,
