I lost 8 months of client work this morning.

I opened ChatGPT like I do every morning to build my to-do list—and discovered my account had been deactivated. No warning. No notice. Just… gone.

Inside were two years of client strategies, projects, mappings, content pillars, tracking, and countless things I use ChatGPT for every day.

And the frustrating part?

I knew better.

I had been good about moving important work into Google Docs. Then I got complacent.

My last full backup was March 2025.
Last client strategies abs planning did over 6 months ago. So now i have to rewrite all my current client projects and brand guides.

So now I’m waiting on an appeal and hoping I can recover it.

But here’s the lesson:

If you use AI for your business, do you have a backup plan?

Save the important stuff somewhere you control.

Because apparently, I needed this reminder too. 😩

Most businesses don’t need more leads.

They need to stop losing the ones they already have.

Someone fills out your form.
Sends a message.
Asks for pricing.
Says, “Let me think about it.”

And then… nothing.
No follow-up. No reminder. No next step.

That’s not a lead generation problem. That’s a system problem.

Before you spend more money getting people through the door, make sure your business knows what to do with them once they get there.

“How do I get my content to perform better?”

A business owner asked me this during a marketing consultation last week.

So we talked about one of my favorite content frameworks:

Problem → Agitate → Solution.

Problem: Name what your customer is already struggling with.

Agitate: Show why it matters, what it’s costing them, or what happens if nothing changes.

Solution: THEN show them the better way forward.

He tried it on his next piece of content.

It got about 3x his normal views.

No algorithm hack. No posting trick.

People pay attention when they recognize themselves in what you’re saying.

Stop starting with your business.

Start with their problem.

Your business should be able to survive you logging off.

That’s what good systems are for.

Leads can come in.
Follow-up can happen.
Appointments can get booked.

Without you babysitting every damn thing.

Systems aren’t just about growth.

They’re how you build a business that leaves room for an actual life.

Build a business you can actually step away from.

There’s a weird stage of business nobody talks about.

You’re too busy to keep doing everything yourself, but not quite ready for a full team.

That might mean it’s time to outsource pieces of the business.

A bookkeeper.
A marketing contractor.
A commission-based salesperson.
An assistant.

You don’t have to hire an entire staff to stop doing everything yourself.

Sometimes the next stage of growth is simply deciding which jobs don’t need to be yours anymore.

If your marketing only works when you’re actively pushing it… you don’t have a marketing problem.

You have an infrastructure problem.

Your website should be doing a job.
Your CRM should be following up.
Your content should be building trust.
Your systems should be moving people toward the next step.

Because growth gets a whole lot easier when your business isn’t depending on you remembering to do everything manually.

You don’t need more marketing.

You need better infrastructure.

Owning a business will humble the hell out of you. 😂

One week you’re signing new clients, solving problems and feeling like you finally have your s**t together.

The next week you’re Googling something you swear you knew how to do yesterday.

That’s the part nobody really talks about.

You don’t eventually reach some magical level where you know everything.

You just get better at figuring s**t out.

And THAT might actually be the skill that builds the business.

One of the weirdest parts of owning a business?

You can have a really good week and still end Friday thinking about the 17 things you didn’t get done. 😂

So here’s your reminder and mine:

Look at what DID move.

The conversation you had.
The client you landed.
The problem you solved.
The thing you finally finished.
The decision you stopped avoiding.

Progress in business rarely looks as dramatic as we think it should.

Most of the time, it’s a bunch of small moves that eventually add up to something pretty damn big.

Count the wins.

The to-do list will still be there Monday.

More traffic won’t fix a bad conversion problem.

Before you spend more money getting people to your website, ask:

Are they actually doing anything once they get there?

Calling.
Booking.
Requesting a quote.
Filling out a form.
Buying.

Because 1,000 website visitors who leave without taking action aren’t better than 100 visitors who actually become leads.

Sometimes you don’t need more marketing.

You need to fix what happens AFTER the click.

That’s where the money usually is.

I swear my ideal clients always find me. 😂

I met with a woman today who originally wanted to talk about Facebook ads.

By the end of the conversation, I was taking over her social media AND her ads.

But the best part?

Within about five minutes I was thinking, “Oh yeah. You’re my people.”

She lifts.
She works out.
She’s disciplined.
She talks like me.
She swears like me. 😂

And it reminded me why I’m so damn specific about how I market my own business.

I don’t write content for “small business owners.”

I write like I’m talking to ONE person.

The kind of person I actually want to work with.

My personality is in it. My opinions are in it. My language is in it.

And somehow, over and over again, those people find me.

Your marketing shouldn't be trying to make everyone like you.

It should make the right people recognize you.
