What is the most important service that an ITAD vendor provide? Value for your assets is a given, but more importantly, we provide the best data security in the industry. Value of your asset, while important, should not be the #1 deciding factor of who you use for a vendor. If your data is not properly identified and erased, the value of the asset won't mean much when your company is on the news and now liable for any customer data that wasn't properly erased. Your reputation is worth more than an asset. If your vendor doesn't place the same urgency on data security, it's time to switch vendors.

A study of the ITAD industry found that when providing services to clients who claimed to have erased their data on their own, 13% of the assets were not erased at all. While we have not done a study of our own, We say this could be a little higher.

Recently there have been a lot of advertisements around claiming to offer "Free" recycling services. While we all have to start somewhere, its very important to know the risks in dealing with these types of recyclers.

Attached to this post is a photo from a real advertisement of free recycling services. Who's hard drives are those in that bag? Do you think they've been properly erased? I know they said they would but how do you know? Are there any records to show?

The fact is this is not something to be risked when it comes to retiring your IT assets. Even if it's not us, you should be working with a CERTIFIED recycler who has to undergo very strict yearly audits to make sure that they are doing exactly what they say they will be doing. Trusting your data with anything else is a bad idea.

It's not often that Amazon has a flop, but this was a big one. Called the Amazon Fire Phone, it was their attempt to enter the Smartphone market. Given the popularity of both Android and IOS, trying to squeeze any market share from them with what was considered an inferior product would have been near impossible. The Fire Phone used Amazon's android based FireOS, which was modeled after their Tablet line. The biggest hurdle? You had to use the proprietary Amazon App Store. In the beginning, large companies were making apps for the store, however the return was little, and in the end, many app makers backed away from having to manage a 3rd app store. It didn't help that they also made the phone AT&T Exclusive in a time where Verizon was considered king.

Once upon a time, Norton and McAfee AntiVirus were the kings of Anti-Virus software. This was the very next thing you would install after Windows. Now, Windows 11 comes with built-in Anti-Virus, and it's good enough for prime time. It's not really a thought today as it was back then.

I'm sure everybody had one of these phones at one point. This is a perfect example of two things: How far technology has come, and how "They don't make em like they used to." These old Nokia phones could survive the apocalypse. They held battery charge forever, were incredibly durable, and simply always worked. There were no fancy screens or features, except for the games - anyone remember Snake?
