I usually do everything I can to ignore them! This year is different, though. On this birthday I ask you, If you can, to make a special gift a contribution of any size to an organization that is very important to me and that is doing extraordinary work to support those in need, now as it always does.

Immigrant Family Services Institute, IFSI (www.ifsi-USA.org), is unique, I know them very well and I have worked with them since 2015. IFSI serves the Haitian and Latino populations in Boston, many of whom are essential workers. In "normal times" IFSI provides extraordinary educational opportunities to the low-income children in their community. But these times are anything but normal. IFSI is doing more - much more - with fewer resources and they need our help. Now, to meet the needs of children who cannot go to school, they have launched the IFSI Online Academy serving 70 children and delivered 50 laptops to kids who did not receive from the Boston Public School system. Their online after school program has been so successful, it is the de-facto model for BPS for online learning!

Each day I am deeply grateful to be alive, with a roof over my head and food on the table. So many people globally are not so fortunate, including people I know and love. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for considering this request.

is a Complete Answer!

Yet not many of us think that way either in our professional or our personal lives. We are too concerned about how we may be perceived by others. Will we upset or offend the other person? Will they no longer like us? If we are at work, how might this influence my next promotion?

Saying no is one of the most important skills that we can learn. Remember what they say on the airlines, “put on your oxygen mask first before helping others”. If you consistently say yes, when you really want to say no, there will come a point when you will feel resentful which will ultimately impact your relationship in a negative way with the other person.

Learning to say no professionally is a key leadership skill. At the start-up stage of an organization, energy and passion are at their highest and there is a willingness to do almost anything to prove the organization should exist. But the clarity of purpose or business is essential to success. In the nonprofit world, how often do we see mission creep in well-meaning organizations looking to help those in need? In my experience, a lot of the time. Whereas funders are a good example of organizations that say no. Probably more than many in the nonprofit world would like to see! But they understand they cannot fund every program and say no to organizations that fall outside of their funding guidelines. And when they do not see a sustainable program.

Set your program up for by breaking down your donor segments. You may start with stewarding new donors so they become regular donors. Then phase in stewarding different levels, since each segment will require a different approach.
-
Consider these format:
1. Identify the types of donors or levels of gifts that you’ll build your program around.
2. Brainstorm the communications and experiences each donor type should receive.
3. Get feedback from donors on what they value and what resonates with them.
4. Cull your list and prioritize ideas.
5. Create a written plan detailing what you decided.
6. Build a timeline that outlines when each communication and experience for each donor type or gift level should occur.
7. Decide who in your organization will be responsible for each task.
8. Ensure each team member is allocated the tools and time to give their tasks the attention they deserve.
9. Think more about quality than quantity of communications.
10. Always be connecting with your mission.
11. Keep your focus on stewardship, not a solicitation.
12. Take advantage of technology.

Having an executive coach offers you an opportunity to learn more about yourself than you already know. People often go to executive coaching thinking they're looking for a promotion in their current role, but the sessions may have you realize that what you're seeking isn't necessarily your life's purpose.
-
We all have a specific purpose, and only when we are doing something related to that purpose is when we are happiest in the work field.
-
Many often lose sight of what their true purpose is. But guess what? As an Executive Coach, it is my purpose to help you find your purpose. 😉
