Join the Salina Fire Department on Friday, September 11th, for a 25th anniversary tribute honoring those affected by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The ceremony begins promptly at 8:55 a.m. at the new Fire Station #4, 2600 E. Crawford Street. Together, we will remember the lives lost, honor the first responders and service members who answered the call, and recognize the enduring spirit of service and resilience.

Following the tribute ceremony, the public is invited to the official dedication and open house of the new Fire Station #4. Tour the facility, meet Salina firefighters, and learn about emergency response and fire prevention services. Donuts and coffee will be served through noon. This event is free and open to the public.

Please arrive early and park in the Berkley Family Rec Area ball field parking lot (841 Markley Rd.) to help reduce congestion near the station.

Last week, our on-duty crews completed specialized training focused on football-related injuries and concussions lead by Athletic Trainers from Salina Central and Salina South.

Crews began in the classroom reviewing common athletic injuries, concussion recognition, and patient care considerations. They then moved to Salina Stadium for hands-on scenarios involving injured players on the field.

The training also included practicing how to safely access, assess, and remove a spectator from the stands during a medical emergency.

Thank you to USD 305 for the access to Salina Stadium for supporting this important training opportunity. Preparing in the same environment where these incidents may occur helps our crews provide safe, efficient care when every second counts.

Today we congratulate our newest firefighters on graduating from recruit training. They have moved from Recruit Firefighter to Probationary Firefighter with the Salina Fire Department.

Over the next year they will continue learning on the job, training with their crews, and completing their probationary skills book. When they successfully check off all required tasks, they will finish their one‑year probation.

Please join us in welcoming them to the line and thanking our instructors, mentors, and families for their support.

Over the last three days, our on-duty crews assisted with live burn training for our recruit class. During this training, the recruits had the opportunity to put together everything they have learned over the past nine weeks.

From hose advancement and search techniques to fire attack, teamwork, communication, and safety, the class applied their training in realistic live fire conditions. Live burn training is a major step in their development as firefighters. It challenges recruits both physically and mentally while reinforcing the importance of discipline, trust, and working together as a crew.

We are proud of the effort, focus, and determination this class has shown throughout the academy. Great work by the recruits, and thank you to the instructors and on-duty crews who helped prepare them for this important training milestone.

We want to recognize the outstanding work of the crew on a recent cardiac arrest call in Saline County.

When they arrived, the patient was in full cardiac arrest, pulseless and not breathing. Through quick action, strong teamwork, and high-quality patient care, the crew was able to regain a pulse on scene before transporting the patient to SRHC ER for continued treatment.

Calls like this reflect the training, professionalism, and commitment our personnel bring every day. We are proud of this crew and the care they provided in a critical moment.
