We just completed the triennial update of our Vehilce Allowance and Practices Survey. A lot has changed in 3 years with allowances escalating between 15% and 25% for the majority of the 27 positions in the survey.

The 1st quarter 2026 Employment Cost Index (ECI) for construction shows a 3.1% actual change in wages and salaries (only base pay ) for the past 12 months. Quite a change from the 4th quarter 2025.

The 12 month change in wages and salaries for all private industry workers was 3.4% during the same period.

The 12 month change in wages and salaries for all private industry workers was 3.6% during the same period. Just a reminder that individual employee pay increases tend to run higher than the ECI.

The 4th quarter 2024 Employment Cost Index (ECI) for construction shows only a 2.4% actual change in wages and salaries for the past 12 months. The 12 month change in wages and salaries for all private industry workers was at 3.7% during the same period. I’m still baffled that the change in the construction ECI continues to be below the all industry percentage.
