Are Cake Strips Worth the Hype!?πŸ€”πŸ€©

I have heard a lot of amazing things about how cake strips can prevent cake from baking with a dome and help the cakes bake flat, so I am excited to give them a try today!

➑️ We are testing a store bought fabric cake strip, and a homemade paper towel cake strip, against a control normal cake layer.

πŸ‘€ As you can see it did not go as planned πŸ˜…πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ but that is okay!

🌟 We learned a lot and I would definitely give them a try again with less cake batter in the pan to prevent the overflow next time.

Additional Notes:

🌷The home made version retained a lot more water causing the cake to bake really slowly and sink the most in the center. There was also NO browning on the outside. If using this method at home I recommend making sure to really ring them out.

🌷The store bought version also had less browning than the control, but baked much nicer. From what I can tell they seem pretty simple, just fabric so I think you could make them at home if desired. Though they also can be found pretty inexpensive.

Here is my recipe for the SUPER Easy and effective Cake Goop!πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

(This is a very large batch, feel free to adjust to your needs)

πŸ’• 3 cups Flour

πŸ’• 3 cups Vegetable Shortening

πŸ’• 3 cups Vegetable Oil

Whip until homogeneous, lighter in color, and texture. Store in an air tight container at room temperature. Brush on with a pastry brush ( the silicone ones are my favorite for easy use and clean up).

Just ensure it's evenly spread over the entire pan.
