We are incredibly grateful for every person who donates to the Foster Closet. Everything we provide to children and families comes from the generosity of our community, and we truly could not do this work without you.
At the same time, we want to gently remind everyone that our ministry is completely volunteer-run. Every hour spent sorting, hauling away unusable items, or disposing of donations that do not meet the needs of foster children takes time away from serving children and families in crisis.
The items pictured are examples of donations we are unable to use because they do not meet the needs of children in foster care.
Our goal is to provide foster families with essentials that help restore dignity, comfort, and confidence. Because of that, we ask that donations be in like-new condition and directly useful for foster children and teens.
While we understand many people are also trying to clean out garages, attics, and storage spaces, our foster closet is not a general donation drop-off location. Seasonal décor, holiday decorations, heavily used items, and miscellaneous household clean-out items are not things our children need.
Before donating, we kindly ask:
• Is this something a child or teen in foster care could immediately use?
• Is it clean, in excellent condition, and something that builds dignity?
• Would I feel good giving this directly to a child I love?
If the answer is no, we respectfully ask that those items be donated elsewhere.
Thank you for helping us keep our focus where it belongs: on meeting the real and immediate needs of foster children with care, dignity, and purpose.
