Why Cheap Security Cameras Can Put Your Privacy at Risk
Your security cameras are supposed to protect you—not create another way into your network.
-Network Pivoting:
If a poorly secured camera is compromised, an attacker may gain a foothold on your network. From there, they could potentially attempt to access other connected devices such as computers, phones, smart-home equipment, or network storage.
-Wi-Fi Credential Exposure:
Some lower-quality or poorly designed devices may store network credentials insecurely. If the camera itself is compromised, sensitive network information could potentially be exposed.
-Botnets & Proxy Networks:
Outdated and vulnerable internet-connected cameras are common targets for automated attacks. Compromised devices can be recruited into botnets or proxy networks and potentially used to route malicious traffic or participate in cyberattacks—all without the owner realizing it.
-Weak or Missing Encryption:
