Range Ward

It sure was nice to be asked to come and speak to the grade 2 to 6 classes at Reed Ranch School near Olds Alberta last week.
Everyone in the room comes from a farming family, and I was impressed with how many children already had at least a little bit of understanding of soil health and the importance of it! We talked about why healthy soil is important, and how through managed grazing, we can see improvements in our soil. And of course we talked about some cool tools that can help us with managed grazing.
A LOT of questions from an eager and engaged group of kids.
Thank you for asking me to come over!

We love when producers send us photos of their Range Ward equipment at work in the field!
Thank you Altario Agriculture Academy for showing us how the Power Shepherd is helping manage the grazing on your school farm.

Lakeland College Vermilion was been using several pieces of Range Ward equipment for the five years, by implementing into summer time rotational grazing, swath grazing in the winter, and out with their bison heard as well.
Lakeland College is a great partner, and is hosting another Research For The Ranch field day in October.
Register early and make sure you have a seat!

Join us for Research for the Ranch, our livestock field day, filled with information for livestock producers, industry representatives, students and fellow researchers.

We get asked all the time, "what do you do for corners when building a temporary electric fence".

If that fence is going in the same location year after year, doing the same job, (example - perimeter fence around a winter swath grazing), you may as well drive a permanent wood or tee-post on your corners.
If the fenceline changes year after year or is never in the same spot, I like to use a few step in pigtails at the corners. I always step in on a little bit of an angle with the step to the inside of the pull.
This seems to work quite well. Remember, it is a psychological barrier so as long as that super hot is standing there in front of them and they are trained to it, they are likely to stay behind it. Pictures showing my corner set up.
