The KonMari Method is known for its folding and vertical storage process. The clients I have worked with have all wanted lessons in folding. Yes - folding, proper folding. Once you are taught properly, this sticks. I have clients messaging me months later showing me photos of their drawers, still maintained.

We all didn't work at retail clothing stores in our high school or college years and had to fold hundreds of jeans. Flashback to my days at The Buckle - do you all remember that store?!

☀ One of the golden rules of the KonMari Method is tidying by categories and not by room. Even in those primary categories, come subcategories and then micro-categories.

For example, let's take clothes.

1) Clothes
2) Accessories
3) Hats
4) Types of hats (baseball caps, cowboy hats, beach hats)

There are a lot of advantages for tackling your items in the lowest subcategory or micro-category. You feel an immediate sense of accomplishment Joy Checking through categories.

When you tidy by room, it's truly not sustainable and could be frustrating and demotivating.

☀ It's an end to another year and one of my clients chose to spend it Joy Checking her kitchen space. We emptied out her cabinets, created categories/subcategories and made decisions on every single item. The before and after on these upper cabinets are absolutely stunning. I am incredibly proud of her progress and her willingness to bring brightness back to her space.

☀ After intensive "Joy Checking" and making decisions of what you want to surround yourself with in your beautiful home, then comes organization. As often as possible, store items vertically. Why? So, you can quickly and efficiently assess your items and it allows them to "breathe". One thing that my clients learn about the KonMari Method is how to respect for their belongings. This is just one way to show that respect.
