Rats and mice are known to chew through car wiring, insulation, and other components under the hood. And it doesn't take much damage to trigger electrical issues or lead to expensive repairs.

Vehicles parked near vegetation, cluttered garages, or areas with rodent activity can be especially vulnerable.

Here are a few warning signs to watch for:
🔹 Chewed or exposed wires under the hood
🔹 Nesting materials around the engine
🔹 Droppings in the engine compartment
🔹 Unexplained electrical problems

If your check engine light comes on, have a qualified mechanic diagnose the issue. And if you notice signs of rodents around your property, don't wait for the damage to get worse.

Urban Texas Pest Control helps San Antonio homeowners manage rat and mouse activity before it becomes a bigger problem.

Yep. Scorpions can climb, and they’re surprisingly good at it.

Textured surfaces like brick, stucco, wood, and rough masonry can give them enough grip to move vertically. That means scorpion activity isn’t always limited to the ground around your home. They can make their way up exterior walls and into higher areas of a structure.

Smooth surfaces like clean glass are much harder for them to climb, but around a typical home, there are plenty of rough surfaces and pathways available.

That’s why scorpion control isn’t just about treating the ground. The structure, hiding areas, entry points, and the insects they feed on all matter too.

So yes… looking up occasionally might not be a bad idea. 😬

A concrete slab may look like a solid barrier, but subterranean termite control is more complicated than that.

These termites live in the soil and can exploit concealed routes associated with foundations, construction joints, plumbing penetrations, cracks, and other areas where the structure meets the ground.

That's also why you may see termite professionals trenching soil or drilling through certain concrete areas during some treatments. The objective isn't to “spray the concrete.” It's to reach appropriate treatment zones associated with the soil and structure.

Every property is different, which is why termite work starts with understanding how the building is constructed and where termite activity could occur.

With termites, what you can't see can be just as important as what you can.

It doesn’t take a big puddle to create a mosquito problem.

After it rains, water can collect in some pretty unexpected places around the yard, including buckets, wagons, water tables, and toys the kids left outside.

If that water sits long enough, it can give mosquitoes a place to lay their eggs and develop.
A quick walk around the yard after rain can make a difference.

Empty collected water, turn containers upside down, and keep an eye on anything that keeps filling back up.

Sometimes mosquito control starts with something as simple as cleaning up after playtime.

There's a lot more happening during a pest control service than simply spraying around the house.

A technician is looking at the structure itself: foundation gaps, plumbing and utility penetrations, moisture, pest harborage, entry points, and evidence of where pests are actually moving.

Then the treatment can be built around the pest and the conditions supporting it.
Sometimes that means a properly labeled residual treatment. Sometimes it means baiting, exclusion, removing a conducive condition, or a combination of methods.
The product is a tool. Knowing where and how to use it is the important part.

Sometimes, seeing pests die immediately isn’t the goal.

With certain ant treatments, the strategy is to let worker ants interact with the bait or treatment and continue back toward the colony.

With properly selected baits, foraging ants can carry the active ingredient back and share it with other members of the colony. Because the effect is delayed, you’re targeting more than just the ants you can see walking across the surface.
That’s why effective pest control isn’t always about the fastest knockdown.

Sometimes the better strategy is getting the treatment where the real problem is: the colony.

That mound in your yard is only the part you can see.
A fire ant colony can extend underground well beyond the visible mound, which is why simply knocking it down or treating only the surface may not solve the problem.
And around San Antonio, fire ants can stay active well into fall.

If you're noticing new mounds popping up around your lawn, sidewalks, driveway, or kids' play areas, it may be time to look at what's happening below the surface.
