Why shouldn't you use a text question for age?

Short answer: respondents may report their ages plus all sorts of undesirable characters.

When importing such data, age ends up as a string variable in SPSS and you can't readily convert all values.

So what's a quick (and safe!) way to fix this? I'll walk you through in https://www.spss-tutorials.com/spss-extract-digits-from-string
