RelateAbility, PLLC Strengthening Relationships One Experience At A Time. Your Team. Our Purpose

04/21/2026

With about a third of the year in the books, figured it'd be a good time to reflect a bit on some goodness in 2026. Hope you take time to celebrate impactful moments you've experienced and thank the people in your lives who have made those possible.

Many thanks to organizations and schools like .youth ESP, Inc. who have partnered with me to build relationships among leaders, staff, and students. Looking forward to spending time with them and many others during the rest of the year!

What a joy it was to start 2026 by training Counselors and Site Coordinators with Communities In Schools of San Antonio and East Central ISD! Supporting their efforts with Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) by bridging adventure therapy, experiential learning, and student mental health was rewarding. Creating training kits and manuals for them made the whole experience particularly fun. In Schools of San Antonio

3 days of training. 3 different teams. 50 leaders. 1 organization. Whole lotta fun. Whole lotta connections. Whole lotta learning.

RelateAbility's Adventure Together Into Leadership training invites leaders into connection with one another, explores essentials for workplace wellness, and engages leaders in difficult conversations to promote growth in your organization.

Here's a question normally posed to help participants get grounded: What do you need to engage as your authentic self in this space?

Here's one way to invite connection with your team throughout 2026 which can begin when you first come together this year:

1. Hand out slips of paper to each team member. The more colorful and interesting the paper, the better.

2. On the slips of paper, ask your team members to anonymously write a question they'd like teammates to answer. If people are curious about what type of question it should be, you can suggest it be a question they wouldn't mind answering for the group, or a fun question they've been asked in the past.

3. Collect all slips of paper (at least 12 total) and store them in fun container (e.g., small treasure box, piggy bank, chalk bag, magician's box, mason jar, toolbox).

4. Each month, bring the container to a team meeting, randomly pull out at least one question and pose it to the team when your meeting begins.

I've learned trusting team members to bring fun, important questions to the group is a valuable way for teams to feel connected. Hope this activity does the same for your group.

Tending to a fire is one of my favorite things to do. It's particularly special when that happens under the stars. This picture was taken during one such night this year.

Hope this holiday season you find time to slow down and ground yourself in appreciations for moments and people who have helped you make it through 2025. It's been a tough one for many.

Since 2021 it's been great to partner with the Advanced Learning Academy (ALA) ALA, SAISD CASTschools to help high school seniors and juniors learn about group facilitation. At the core of our learnings has always been how these students can help build stronger relationships in their school. Our days on the challenge course are particularly special. We get to spend time outdoors, climb, and stretch our understandings about the power of connection.

One of the reasons I love remaining connected with other professionals from groups like the Outdoor Research Collaborative for Health, Wellbeing and Experiential Engagement Outdoor Research Collaborative and the International Association for Adventure and Nature-based Therapies is that I get to bring these students practices used all over the globe for promoting wellness. Looking forward to how these ALA students grow in their self-confidence and support for one another throughout the rest of the school year.

I love working with leadership teams who understand that promoting a sense of belonging together helps to create organizational sustainability and resilience. Interested in gathering intentionally with your team to do the same? I'd like to help.
