I'm no stranger to the Frankenstein's monster of holiday decorations left up year-round. Christmas trees left up 'til March. Fall leaves mingling with winter snow. Why is that Independence Day banner still on the mantle in April? Who knows!

Do yourself a favor and neatly pack away the current holiday BEFORE decking the halls, hm? ;)

For many people, Thanksgiving is a fun, communal holiday in which you gather together with your loved ones and celebrate the things you are grateful for.

However, it is important to remember that this is not the case for everyone. Schools across America still teach a version of the "the First Thanksgiving" that is misleading, often inaccurate and still incredibly harmful to indigenous communities, especially the Wampanoag tribe, who are the Native Americans described in the "First Thanksgiving" story.

While you're giving thanks this season, please take some time to learn the history behind this holiday and think about your relationship with Native American peoples.

If you've been following along since the beginning, you know that my mom has been a huge supporter and inspiration for my business! It's so lovely getting to see her around the holidays and work on projects with her IN PERSON!

Orgicorn Tip No. 5: Be kind to yourself when you lapse.
~
I don't know about y'all, but my first instincts whenever I mess up on some new routine are to A) beat myself up for whatever misstep I made and B) give up on it. As a perfectionist, it's so hard for me to forgive myself for not getting a new system 100% right 100% of the time!

But we're human beings and that's not how human brains work. We can't immediately adjust to new ways of doing things and there are going to be times when we forget or we fall short or we just plain don't want to do whatever we have promised to do. It's easy to make ourselves feel guilty and awful for these missteps. And when we start down those tunnels of self-doubt, it gets harder and harder to pick that system back up and keep going.

So the next time you mess up a new routine or system, take a step back and be kind to yourself! Then, when you can, pick right back and keep going.

It takes courage both to try something new and to ask for help in achieving it.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a time to honor the beautiful people around the world who have fought to be recognized for who they are and to live free from harassment or violence. We have come so far in LGBTQ+ rights, but so many trans people still suffer every day because of their identity. And so many many trans people suffered before we were able to get where we are now.

Please take some time today to remember those who have come before us and support those still fighting today.

Read the article below to meet a group of lovely trans folks who have left their mark on the world. https://www.advocate.com/politics/transgender/2014/11/20/these-48-trans-women-and-men-changed-world

Folks that are in San Antonio, please consider giving some of your time or your money to The Center - Pride Center San Antonio, which does so much to support trans people in our area.

Folks across the US, GLAAD is an amazing organization that has education resources for both trans people and allies. Their website has a list of more organizations that can offer more specialized resources and could use support.

Folks across the world, there are so many organizations dedicated to changing the lives of trans people for the better, one of which is https://www.facebook.com/GATEOrgOfficial/. Find one that speaks to you and see what you can do to support them.

Folks that identify as trans or are questioning their gender identity. You are wonderful and you deserve to exist in the way that feels right to you. Keep fighting to be you in the most complete and comfortable way you can be.

I provide all the help I can to every one of my clients, but at the end of the day, they are the ones who took the leap of faith to ask for my help. And they are the ones who must commit to change.

Orgicorn Tip #4: Habits make it happen.
~
You spend hours and hours cleaning, organizing, purging, re-making your entire life and for a moment, you're pleased with yourself. For a glowing day, or even a week, all is right with your life.

And then reality hits. You get busy. You get tired. You live your life. And the beautiful world you just spent AGES creating for yourself begins to dissolve into chaos once more.

Any time I work with a new client, I stress that the phase AFTER we set up the initial system is the most important part. Creating the habits that will keep you organized is far more impactful than any acrylic tray or email folder can manage.

Putting the keys on the hook whenever you get home. Unsubscribing from an email list you notice you aren't opening. Naming files the same way every time. What little habits can you form to make your life more organized?

Sometimes, I am considerate to my Monday-self with my Sunday choices. Other times I read until 2 am. 🤷😅

Do you agree? I'm not sure that I do...

Most of my clients that I've helped in my career have worked with me because they wanted some kind of change. They want a clean inbox, or a freer daily schedule, or better habits for themselves. And I engage in so much learning and teaching myself, as someone constantly pushing to achieve new things.

But sometimes, we learn in order to see the way things are, not necessarily in order to change them. So, it's tough to say that change is necessarily the end result.

But of course, in learning about something, we ourselves often change.

What are your thoughts on learning and change? Do you agree with Mr. Buscaglia?

Y'all remember the email inbox I posted a few weeks ago? You know, the one with 20k+ unread messages? SO happy to see the progress we've made. Started at over 40k emails and now we're down to a clean inbox and creating a system for the emails coming in. Makes me smile 😊
