Yesterday, our office celebrated the retirement of Kenny R. Rothe, PE, CFM, one of the founders of Civil Design Services, Inc. (now known as CDS Muery), after more than 40 years of outstanding leadership and dedication. What began as a vision grew into a trusted and respected organization, built on Kenny's commitment to quality, integrity, and service. His leadership shaped not only successful projects and communities, but also the careers of countless professionals. Kenny leaves behind a remarkable legacy defined by mentorship, character, and lasting impact.

Congratulations on this well-earned retirement! Wishing you happiness, good health, and many adventures ahead. Up first in retirement for Kenny is a well-earned fishing trip!

CDS Muery participated in the 2026 San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup University Health 3v3 Basketball Tournament and the CPS Energy 3-Point Contest last Friday evening at the Mission Concepcion Sports Complex. Our team faced stiff competition throughout the 3v3 tournament against multiple teams and battled their way to a strong 2nd place finish.

Our shooters also represented well in the 3-Point Contest, finishing 3rd overall out of 10 competing teams. Great teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship all around! 🏀

Over 600 employees competed and played their hearts out to earn points for their company.

Our Engineering team had the opportunity to learn about how is helping developers and engineers across Central Texas reduce stormwater costs, recover valuable developable real estate, and minimize detention footprints without sacrificing compliance. Their turnkey solutions — Stormbasix+, SmartPOND, and FocalPoint — are already accepted by multiple jurisdictions throughout the region and are supported with ready-to-use HEC/Excel models, CAD details, and engineering coordination. It was great to see real-world examples of how stormwater and detention optimization strategies can create significant savings in both construction costs and developable area.

Today our very own Kenny Rothe, PE, CFM, shared his vast experience with our Engineering team about how pavement design goes far beyond the surface—it’s about building layered systems that handle traffic and time. Engineers use Equivalent Single Axle Load and cumulative Equivalent Single Axle Loads (ESALs) to measure traffic impact, test soil strength with the California Bearing Ratio, and apply modern methods like Mechanistic-empirical pavement design to predict and prevent issues like cracking and rutting—helping roads last longer and perform better.

His work experience includes projects with Alamo Heights ISD, East Central ISD, Medina Valley ISD, and many other school districts across South Texas.

Thank you to Jorge with Freguson Waterworks for your presentation on the range of stormwater management and environmental protection strategies, including underground detention systems and bioretention methods that help control and treat runoff. Our Engineers explored erosion and sediment control practices, along with the use of geocells and porous pavements to improve water infiltration and stability. In addition, Jorge showcased the role of membranes and liners in containment, as well as key concepts related to stormwater drainage and NPDES materials.
