A course for reporters or students interested in transitioning into captioning. Open enrollment Dec 12 - Jan 13, 2017. Classes start Jan 16th, 2017.
On-site or online.

The Am erican Captioning Institute is a state-approved school. Students are trained in short-hand stenography. The machine skills, along with academic classes will have graduates trained and ready to work as closed captioners for live television or C.A.R.T. providers.

The C.A.R.T. and captioning fields are growing. Professional stenographers are continually needed. All graduates leave informed, educated and confident that they're ready to accept any position offered to them.

Each class is taught by working captioners with industry knowledge and experience. All classes are specialized for each student's style of writing and pace. Job assistance is available.

Day and evening classes are available. Transitioning Program is offered on-line or on-site.

Monday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm or 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm CST
Tuesday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm or 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm CST
Wednesday - no classes
Thursday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm or 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm CST
Friday - No classes
Weekends - closed


Programs offered:

English Captioning Program - 2 year theory program for first timers

Spanish Captioning Program - 2 year theory program for first timers *must be bilingual

Transitioning Program - 9 month program for students with previous stenography experience. No speed requirement needed.
