⛈️ STAY PREPARED, SAN BENITO! ⛈️

With rain and storms possible, it’s always a good idea to take a few simple steps to stay prepared:

🔋 Charge your phones and portable batteries.
🔔 Keep your phone ringer ON when you go to bed so family can reach you if needed.
🧊 Don’t have ice? Freeze a few water bottles ahead of time.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Check on family members, neighbors, and especially the elderly.
🏠 Secure loose outdoor items.
🌦️ Stay weather aware and keep an eye on local updates.

A little preparation goes a long way. Stay safe and look out for one another!

Today, members of the San Benito Fire Department participated in S-130 Basic Firefighter and S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior training, hosted by the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Our firefighters spent the day strengthening their knowledge and skills in wildland firefighting, fire behavior, hazard recognition, and firefighter safety.

Training and preparation are a big part of what we do. Opportunities like today help ensure our firefighters are ready to safely and effectively respond when our community needs us.

Thank you to the Texas A&M Forest Service for providing this valuable training, and great job to all of our firefighters who participated! 🔥🚒

🚨 🔥 Fire crews responded to a reported residential structure fire earlier today. Upon arrival, firefighters made entry into the home and quickly located a small fire involving a couch. The fire was extinguished before it could spread, limiting damage to the residence.

The Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Based on witness statements and the scene examination, the fire was determined to have been accidental and originated from embers produced by a wooden wick candle.

Thanks to the homeowner’s quick decision to call 911 and the rapid response of fire personnel, the fire was contained before it caused significant damage. This incident serves as a reminder to never leave candles unattended and to keep them away from furniture and other combustible materials.

⚠️ FLASH FLOOD SAFETY MESSAGE ⚠️

Heavy rainfall is anticipated across our area, which may lead to flash flooding and rapidly changing road conditions. Even a small amount of moving water can sweep away a vehicle.

🚗 Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

* Never drive through flooded roadways.
* Do not attempt to walk through moving water.
* Be alert for road closures and barricades.
* Allow extra travel time and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
* Monitor local weather forecasts and emergency notifications.

This photo is a reminder of how quickly vehicles can become stranded in floodwaters. No destination is worth risking your life.

The City of San Benito Fire Department urges all residents to use caution, stay weather aware, and remember:

🌧️ TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN. 🌧️

🔥🧯 Captain Joey Perez and his shift recently partnered with our local H-E-B team to provide hands-on fire extinguisher training. Employees learned how to safely and effectively use a fire extinguisher in the event of a small fire emergency.

We appreciate H-E-B’s commitment to workplace safety and their willingness to participate in this important training. Community partnerships like these help make San Benito a safer place to live, work, and shop.

Remember: Fire extinguishers can save lives and property when used correctly, but always ensure your safety comes first and call 911 for any fire emergency. 🔥 🧯

🔥 Safety through education! We recently visited the Palmville community to share fire safety tips and demonstrate the proper techniques for using a fire extinguisher. Thank you to all the residents who attended and took an active role in keeping our community safe.

🚒 New Addition to the Fleet! 🚒

Today, we proudly took delivery of our new Polaris Ranger Crew XD 1500, purchased through the Border Zone Fire Department Grant Program to enhance our emergency response capabilities and better serve our community.

This unit is equipped with a QTAC Fire Rescue Skid, giving us the ability to quickly respond to grass fires, brush fires, and rescue incidents in areas where larger apparatus may have limited access. Its off-road capability, compact size, and firefighting equipment make it a valuable asset for protecting lives and property across our response area.

The addition of this specialized vehicle will improve our effectiveness in wildland firefighting, search and rescue operations, and emergency response in difficult terrain.
