A record holiday pie still leaves one question: who gets the December call?

External industry findings from Intuit QuickBooks’ Sept. 25, 2026 survey, not TEAM data, results, forecasts, or predictions; TEAM did not commission or endorse it: holiday spending is expected to rise about 5.7%; roughly $118B of projected $278B in holiday spending is expected to go to small businesses, a record share; and about 76% of small businesses expect to earn more than last year. Picture your afternoon in Wonderland: an elegant celebration where every detail leads back to giving.

At 3:00 PM, arrive at Maderas Golf Club for check-in, complimentary valet or self-parking, and a beautifully themed Wonderland experience. VIP guests will enjoy the Queen of Hearts Welcome Toast and a curated swag bag.

Settle in for an elegant seated meal and dessert, a signature Mad Hatter Martini or Mocktini, live entertainment, immersive photo opportunities, and the Best Dressed in Wonderland contest. You’ll also have time to connect with San Diego’s business and community leaders.

From 5:00–5:30 PM, we pause for the heart of the afternoon: “Get to Know Our Non-Profits.” You’ll be welcomed and thanked, the best dressed winners will be announced, and you’ll hear about the four organizations this gala supports: Foundation Fighting Blindness, Veterans Writing Group, STAR/PAL, and Doors of Change.

Food and beverages continue, and it’s also your last call for the silent auction. A paddle raise will add even more ways to play it forward, and we’ll be sharing sneak peeks of auction treasures soon.

At 5:45 PM, we gather for closing remarks before the event concludes at 6:00 PM, taking home an event keepsake and a beautiful afternoon of purpose, connection, and celebration.

The most experienced professionals in a room often have the deepest networks, and can be the quietest about what they need right now.

That is not a criticism. It may simply mean years of relationships have become dormant while the professional has focused on serving others.

A 2026 National Broker Survey reported by Canadian Underwriter found referral usage at approximately 90% among mid-career professionals, 72% among newer professionals, and 59% among 31-year-plus veterans. Peer-professional referrals among veterans were approximately 26%.

These are external industry findings, not TEAM data, TEAM results, forecasts, or predictions.

One low-pressure strategy for October Finish Strong: invite a tenured member to describe, in one or two plain sentences, what a good referral looks like for them today. Then pair that clarity with one give-first contribution to someone else in the chapter that week.

It is relationship stewardship. It is follow-through. And it may help reactivate connections that already exist.

At the 4th Annual Playing It Forward Gala, the dress code is Wonderland Cocktail Attire. Elevated gala fashion inspired by four iconic themes. No costumes required. Just creativity, confidence, and your own elegant interpretation.

Where does your ticket go? Plainly: it becomes part of the funding raised for four nonprofit partners serving real needs in our community.

Ticket sales are one giving channel. Sponsorships, silent auction purchases, raffles and the paddle raise all help turn this afternoon into support for:

Foundation Fighting Blindness: advancing research, education and resources for people affected by retinal disease.

Veterans Writing Group: providing veterans, active-duty service members and military families with a safe, encouraging space to write, connect and share their stories.

STAR/PAL: building stronger relationships between youth and law enforcement through mentorship, academic support, leadership and youth-development programs.

Doors of Change: helping unhoused youth in San Diego County access immediate support, case management and pathways to housing, healing and self-sufficiency.

The paddle raise during the event sends funds directly to these four nonprofits. After the gala, leadership will present the honored organizations with their checks.

TEAM San Diego includes 9 chapters and 140+ members. Each chapter supports one nonprofit. Together, we are working toward a $30,000 fundraising goal.

A client asks, “Do you know a trusted professional who can help with this?”

You pause.

You may not have the right connection in your chapter, so the client turns to a search engine instead of a human they trust, and may stop asking altogether.

That is the client-side cost of the gap.

The referral-side cost is just as quiet: a possible opportunity routes elsewhere before a relationship can even begin.

TEAM’s own Invitation Days keynote theme, “The Cost of the Gap,” reminds us that an unfilled category does more than weaken a chapter. It can quietly remove the trusted option from a client’s decision.

Filling the gap is client protection, not simply member recruitment.
