Immersed operates incredible locations for enthusiasts of “doing stuff.” They excel in curating exceptional experiences at exceptional locations. When they came to us, however, there was nothing about their website that gave you that impression. A bland, colorless site, filled with business copy and construction flyovers that was missing a great opportunity. Sometimes we meet a potential client and they want to know if we’re experts in their field. The answer, of course, is rarely, “yes.” So if that’s the case, how can we properly speak to their customers, if we don’t know what they know?

We usually start with the fact that they aren’t working with us because of our expertise in their industry, they’re working with us precisely because of our ignorance. Our goal is to make what you do, who you do it for, and what makes you great, so easy to understand, that even we get it.

When the new ownership group took over the wave pool in Waco, they inherited a cluster of software, spreadsheets, sticky notes (I’m not kidding), and a general junk drawer
of information. Priority #1 for us was to help them organize and optimize their data. Not only did they need to understand who their clientele was, but more importantly, what they were doing so that they could begin to communicate with them to create loyal and satisfied customers.

You know the brand, so what do they sell?

When building your brand, be clear about what you are selling. Is it a product or service? Maybe it’s something much less obvious. Are you selling a feeling, or an association or memory… Or maybe even aspiration? In the end, I’ve got incredibly accurate clocks all around me. On my phone, my computer, the front of my cable box…

So, what is Rolex selling?

Any time we take on a new brand, we always start by diving deep into the reason a brand exist, and what it is striving for. All the fun stuff like logos, taglines, websites, a hat for your buddy… whatever… all of it comes from asking those first questions.

When we think about branding, we often forget just exactly where that comes from. It really is as obvious as the cattle in the field. The owner is simply trying stake their claim on that cow, but to say “it leaves a mark,” from the cows perspective, is an understatement.

The analogy might be heavy handed, but it’s good to keep it in mind when developing your brand. When you look to leave a mark on your customers, make sure it’s right, because it’s going to last.

You’ve put in the late nights, and enough Google searches to fill 2 years of post-grad studies. To grow, however, you need to be a leader, not a technician. A common (and necessary) part of any company’s journey is adding human capital. What does the company need, what will they be asked to do, what resources can you provide to make sure they succeed……?

It’s been said, “build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.” Well….with more than 100 different mousetraps now readily available, where does the line start?
The idea that simply having a good product is enough, just won’t work. So let’s make sure your customer knows what makes you unique, what you can do for them, and where to find that path.
