Great Article on Financial Abuse of Seniors

Society of Certified Senior Advisers published this article. The article puts some research around the hard to explain high rates of financial abuse seen among seniors.

The article explores some of the how and why but does not offer a solution. Part of an overall strategy is to structure financial accounts in a way makes them much more difficult to be pilfered. Sometimes the threat comes from an unexpected source. I have had two cases this year where tens of thousands of dollars were gambled/stolen where the well spouse did not realize what was going on with their impaired spouse. Two signatures for the large assets is very important.

I have attached an example account structure that we have designed and promote as a best practice. Practically, this is a valid solution for any age. Malware and other hacks can strike all of us, regardless of age.
